Haswell vs. Ivy Bridge and Overclocking
notmyidea replied to bariboy16's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcAs far as CPUs go, I would refer to this guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html I think Overclocking is definitely worth it - FSX is CPU bound, the faster it is, the less stutters, etc. you will see!!!

GTX 780ti or Titan
notmyidea replied to Gizmo05's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcYou're sitting on a pot of gold! Those 7990 are sold out everywhere due to crypto-currency mining. You can probably sell it for 3x what you bought it for. The 780ti performs better than the Titan, definitely go for the Ti. All the manufacturers you list are great. Maybe choose based on price/warranty? Jason

Head up re new Graphics card!
notmyidea replied to FLAPS15's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThe newer cards really only help with multi-monitor setups. I get 1GB of video card memory usage and my card peeks at about 70% GPU usage with a GTX 780. I'm waiting a few years before moving to P3D until all the add-ons are ported over.

Taxi2gate says on facebook KMCO/Orlando imminent
Thanks to the generosity of hodge001, I have the patch. I am going to host it in dropbox in case anyone else needs it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2523961/MCO-UPDATE1.2.zip Looks like their website has been down for several weeks, I wonder what the issue is?!?

Taxi2gate says on facebook KMCO/Orlando imminent
I just ordered this on simMarket as they had it on special for 30% off. They have a link in their forum for the patch but it is hosted on a site full of ads and malware and you have to create an account. Can someone share the patch in dropbox or some such??? :Praying: They really need to get their website issue sorted out.

fsx always loads with snow on ground
Glad you asked this, I am annoyed by it too! It stinks flying around Vancouver/Victoria Canada with snow on the ground all winter when it rarely snows here. Such a bummer. :(

When will we see stock 4.5+ GHz CPUs?
notmyidea replied to simmerhead's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcIt's highly unlikely we'll see much faster CPUs. Increasing clock speed exponentially increases the heat they generate. We've been able to increase clock speed so far because they keep going to a smaller manufacturing process (making the transistors smaller and therefore, producing less heat) and efficiency increases in the CPU architecture. But we've almost reached the limit of that. Adding more CPU cores, w/o increasing clock speed actually generates less heat. I think we'll see 6 core or 8 core processors go mainstream long before any increase in clock speed.

Toronto FSX
Well, this is terrible news. Is there anything legally we can do to try to get our pre-order money back? And does this make Orxy a candidate for the Avsim Wall of Shame? **UPDATE**: I emailed Florian Fermin at Oryxsim directly and he promptly refunded my pre-order money for CYYZ. Anybody who pre-ordered this can email him at [email protected] and ask for a refund. It would have been nice if they made some formal announcement about the cancellation of the project and refunded pre-order money automatically. In any case, happy I got my money back and I'm looking forward to what FlyTampa does.

PMDG 777 Yes Or No
I would wait on buying it. First off, it is too expensive, in my books. Secondly, I am going to wait to see how Prepar3D works out. If it truly is going to be the successor to FSX (and the version 2 is looking very promising), then I'm staying away from PMDG.

FSX specific checklist?
I use the one listed on this site: http://freechecklists.net/simchecklists.asp The one for the Bonanza says it's for FS2002 but works well with the Carenado. Cheers, Jason

New Flight Simulator
It's for this reason that unless the developers have corporate backing, I can't see a new simulator ever being successful. Without $$, for food and such, I would assume the developers would be doing it on their spare time which would take decades to develop a simulator. Which is a problem - you'd constantly have to change the technology you are using due to obsolescence.

Majestic Dash 8 Q400 - Release Thread
Mine just changed to Completed as well. No change though, still getting 'Cannot Connect to Server' or 'Order Not Found' messages.

Walkthrough of the private pilot checkride?
Go here:http://www.fszone.or...ilot-checkride/Read the last message in the thread. After reading it, I passed it, first try! The hardest thing to get past is the steep turn. To maintain altitude and speed so as not to fail it, I find that I have to apply almost full thrust as I go into the turn.

The very best regional jet/turboprop
I really miss flying the PSS Dash 8. I held on to FS9 till just two years ago so I could fly it. It did have its issues, but I just love the Dash 8 (and they are everywhere in the real world where I live). Really looking forward to Magestic finishing their Q400.I've done some flights in the ERJ v.2 and am enjoying that. I still miss a good turboprop though. I'd get the JS41 but no real world airlines around here fly it and I just really want a nice Dash 8 again.
