June 11, 200916 yr What I am looking for is the most popular set of FS9 FREEWARE ground texture enhancements. Not Airport Environment Upgrade or Real Environment Pro, but actual land class textures for FS9. Several years ago I downloaded a set of textures from AVSIM (I think) that completely replaced my default textures for all types of terrain. I can't for the life of me remember what set this was nor can I find them anywhere else on the net since the library is still down.I am working on a scenery project and need to know what the most widely used set of freeware textures is so that I can make a custom texture to blend in with the environment surrounding the scenery that I am working on.As many of you know, there are many different sets of textures floating around out there. I personally use the payware Ground Environment Pro series. However if I base my custom textures for my scenery on that set of textures, any user who doesn't have GEP installed will not be happy with the results. In certain geographic areas, the difference between the GEP textures and the default FS9 ones is quite dramatic. So what I'm doing is to develop several different versions of my custom made texture that will work with either default, GEP or the most popular set of freeware addon textures for FS9. That way the user can choose what looks best with whatever textures they are running. So is there a consensus on what the most popular set of FS9 replacement textures for the land class would be? These would be the textures that are located in the FS9/Scenery/World/Texture folder. Military AI traffic and scenery packages for the Flight Simulator community.
June 11, 200916 yr I'm primarly only an Asia area flier and I look strongly at packages that provide scenery that is best in those areas. For all world packages I have two winners:1. Ground Environment: I have upgraded to this after purchasing FScene and have noticed that the colors look great, very earthly. The textures are not specific to any area, but it does a great job with making different areas of the world feel region specific. I fly around the Caribbean and it looked great, and I fly around Japan, Shanghai, and Korea and they didn't look like the same textures as the Caribbean. This is a good thing. ^^2.FScene: I bought the MegaPack for FS9 and it was and still is good...though I did buy another scenery pack, lol. I will still stand behind this one because I remember while flying over Japan looking out the window and really being amazed and the 3 dimentional feel this texture set gives. I loved to see the textures. I never ventured to the US or Europe with this, so I do not know how this will look there. The nice thing about FScene is that it DOES have region specific textures! :)Those are all just texture sets, no objects are included. My favorite g-max objects page is Shige's Japan Scenery page. He has some nice city textures, but I like it best for objects. Derek RogersPC Specs: Intel i7-4790K 4.6GHz : 16GB RAM : GTX 970 4GB
June 12, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking for freeware addons however. Any suggestions for free textures that other users might have installed? Military AI traffic and scenery packages for the Flight Simulator community.
June 12, 200916 yr Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking for freeware addons however. Any suggestions for free textures that other users might have installed?I see the "...FREEWARE..." part now...Actually there is alot that I miss in your original post. >.< It was late and I missed it. I will look through my links to see what I can find, but hope others can help out as well. :( ..again It will probably be more for Japan area, but might be a start. June 12, 200916 yr I hope I am not confusing myself, but aren't land class files and texture file two completely different things?Land class files depict what type of ground is to be depicted, ie which textures should appear where... the texture files are called by the land classes...At least that is my understanding of it.So what are you looking for? Land class or texture freeware addons?Andrew Andrew Entwistle
June 12, 200916 yr Author Andrew, you are correct. Yes I am looking for the actual textures that are called by the land class files themselves. I really thought this would be easier to find out. Is everyone either using Payware upgrades or sticking with the default textures?I know that at some point in the past, I had a nice set of freeware textures that I had installed in place of the default land class textures. I just can't remember what they were. :( Military AI traffic and scenery packages for the Flight Simulator community.
June 13, 200916 yr Commercial Member Lennart's Textures? I think the FSNordic site has them. Maybe they're region specific though? I was going through my "Norway phase" at the time, I know the Fjords looked good but I couldn't tell you if they had any effect on the rest of the world.I found the following files on an old CD:lt04_Fall_fa.ziplt04_Hard_winter_hw.ziplt04_Spring_sp.ziplt04_Summer_su.ziplt04_TextureSwitch.ziplt04_up1.ziplt04_Winter_wi.zipJimEDIT: Correction, I downloaded those files from www.flightsim.no rather than FSNordic.
