No proper self-shadowing with ATI HD5770

Featured Replies

since I got a HD5770 and use it with FSX, I'm having troubles with aircraft self shadowing. Either the area on the fuselage over the wings is showing a bright zone what looks like a reversed shadow effect or the whole plane flickers from "completely shadowed" to "normal" from time to time. When I still had my GTS250 installed I did not have this problem. My drivers were installed last week and therefore are the most recent.Anyone noticed something similar and is this maybe a driver setting?

Do you have Acceleration or SP2 installed? One or the other should be installed as it has fixed similar problems for others. I would also try deleting or renaming your FSX.cfg, restart FSX and let it rebuild then see if the problem still exists. I think FSX has problems with hardware changes sometimes. Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed. Usuallly this file is contained on the DVD that came with your new video card. Based on Google searches, no one has had problems as you describe with self-shadowing with an ATI card so most likely a driver or DirectX issue.Best regards,Jim

I have accelleration installed and right now I just tried another complete removal of ALL traces of my previous video drivers (i mean all, completely with CCleaner and Driver Sweeper, where everything was completely gone!) but still I got those strange shadows:WLV41V.jpganyone else has an idea?why do I always have the most persistant problems -.-

I couldn't get self-shadowing to work properly with my Ati 4870 either. It seems to be some kind of driver problem (just like the problem with the liverly lines that don't get antialiased) with no chance of a fix by Ati. They just don't care about FSX.

Seems FSX does not like the "narrow-tent" setting by ATI cards, when I change my AA mode, its gone.
