  1. I stand corrected. I could find my entries that went missing in that thread. Sorry for that. There should be some kind of notification when topics/postings are getting moved. Apart from creating misunderstandings like that it makes it hard for people to find their ongoing discussions again.
  2. Plus they delete topics that criticize the licensing. I love A2A for that they do but this is definitely a turn for the worse. I don't like it when companies try to double-dip their customers, and I don't see why I should buy exactly the same product twice, should I decide to use both FSX and P3D at some point.
  3. Perhaps these videos will answer that question:
  4. Yeah, as I mentioned before somewhere: most people don't experience that problem (or the A2A forums would be much, much, much busier at this time), so if thousands of people don't experience that problem, how big is the chance that a few beta testers experience it in order to catch the problem in time? I'd say it's very unlikely, and that's why any kind of software will always show problems on wide release, especially when a multitude of different hardware comes into play that can't possibly be covered by a beta team short of a big publisher's QA department, which of course is impossible to have for a small FSX add-on company.
  5. And that's exactly how the A2A 172 behaves for me (at Orbx airstrips no less), so it's not a global problem that all users experience. I sure hope you guys get your taxiing problems sorted out with the update.
  6. The pre-flight starts in the cabin with a nice checklist on the left. If you actually read it and do what is says you will eventually get to an item telling you to extend the flaps. As mentioned by J van E: the Avgas is dyed blue, so if you only see a blue liquid in the jar then it's just fuel and more draining isn't necessary. Water is clear.
  7. What a bold statement to make with seemingly zero experience with the product. What exactly doesn't work? Do you mean some of the clickable elements? They only come into play when something requires action. For example, the button on the cowling inspection does nothing when everything is alright. But yesterday I did my pre-flight and someone very visibly left a cloth in the cowling (in the 3D model of the aircraft), Clicking the button removed that cloth. If you are frustrated with some things not working properly for you, how frustrated do you think Scott and Co. are when they read you spewing false information all over forums in some misdirected rage fit that could hurt sales for no good reason? Calm down!
  8. Saying that the C172 wasn't properly tested is a bit unfair, considering that the vast majority of people (including me) don't experience the problems you are reporting. The clickspots work perfectly fine for me 100% of the time. If the testers didn't experience these problems either, because the particular causes responsible for these bugs didn't align for them, they couldn't report them now, could they? Just give them time to work it out and fix it, but throwing accusations around in frustated rage doesn't help anybody. Trust me, I know, because I was on the receiving end of the cockpit&control-freeze-on-touchdown-bug of the 737NGX two years ago, which was very frustrating. But eventually PMDG (who provide similarly excellent support as A2A) found the culprit, fixed it and I was happy. In software there are always problems bound to pop up when a product moves from a 20-30 people testing base (if that) to the customer group of thousands of different people with thousands of different setups. It's absolutely inevitable. With A2A, however, you can be sure that these things will be addressed.
  9. I doubt it will be today or tomorrow, because this is what A2A wrote on their Facebook page yesterday: I'm guessing Tuesday or Wednesday.
  10. While I have all of the Accusim aircraft and love every single one of them (especially the Piper Cub) I've never been more excited about one of A2A's products than I am now for the C172. It's anything but boring to me. I can't wait to get my hands on it and fly some hyperrealistic cross country trips that will feel much more real to me than flying some high performance bird like the P-51, which probably already is a quite surreal experience in real life.

Don't forget that the intensity of the shadows depends on the wheather conditions. You only get very intense shadows on a sunny day, while the shadows are almost invisible when it's cloudy.
  12. Neither. I'm waiting for the DC-6 and it being absent from this poll makes me sad. :(
  13. I must say that freeware is definitely dead to me. At least as far as aircraft and sceneries are concerned. I was totally spoiled by the quality of A2A, PMDG, Carenado, RealAir, Aerosoft and Orbx so that all of the many shortcomings of freeware are all the more glaring to me. Because of that I can't enjoy freeware anymore. The last freeware I tried out was Dino's F-35, which is pretty damn good for freeware standards, but it lasted all but 15 minutes before I threw it out again. It lacked the polish, complexity and performance of professional work that I'm so used to by now.
  14. TrackIR 5.2 works perfectly fine with EZCA, but only if you remember to disable the simconnect.manifest files in the TrackIR folder again, so that EZCA can intercept the camera data and send it to FSX without interference from the TrackIR software. Just follow the TrackIR/EZCA setup instructions again that you already must have followed before at some point, before you updated TrackIR to the new version. I ran into trouble there as well, until I realized that the update restored those files with new versions. ^_^
  15. The DC-6 is the only PMDG aircraft I'm waiting for. Can't wait for news about it.
  16. I'm not gonna lie: while the 777 without a doubt will be impressive and probably will be added to my hangar at some point, the really good news about it getting released soon is that the development of the DC-6 will hopefully pick up again. That's the bird I'm really waiting for!
  17. When flying the Catalina it's imperative to understand that its carburetor heat isn't a simple On/Off system as in most aircraft. And, as opposed to what is written in the manual, it's advisable to use it all the time, because flying the aircraft by the book might not work, depending on the conditions. The carb heat switches are three position switches: Up = raise temperature Down = lower temperature Center = maintain current temperature. You need to maintain the correct carb temperature with these switches at all times. Ideally you need to keep the carb temperature between 32° and 38°. If it falls below that value you can lose power due to carb icing, but if the temperature increases well beyond 38° you will lose power as well, because of the lower oxygen content in hot air. It's a continuous balancing act that can be a bit tricky during take-offs and landings, because the carb temperature increases quickly when opening up the throttle, which consequently can cause a power loss during take-off if it gets too hot. Likewise, when you close the throttle in preperation for the landing the carb temperature might fall below the critical limit and cause carb icing, also causing power loss. So, long story short: always keep an eye on the carb temperature whenever you make power changes, and adjust the carb heat accordingly. Whenever the carb temp is in the correct range, center the switches to maintain it. It's a tricky bird, but very rewarding once you master it.
  18. I can't believe that not a single person has mentioned yet that A2A Simulations are working on a Cessna 172 and a Piper Cherokee, complete with Accu-sim realism. If you don't mind waiting a little longer they will be no doubt the closest that you can get to a hypothetical PMDG GA aircraft.
  19. JustFlight Constellation JustFlight DC-3 Ant's Tecnam Sierra Iris F-14 Iris F-16 Lionheart Quest Kodiak All of these have the same problem: instead of giving me the impression of sitting in a real aircraft (think A2A, PMDG etc.) they rather give me the impression of sitting in a cheap plastic model replica that shouldn't even be able to fly. The modelling and texturing is just not up to the standards that I come to expect from my add-on aircraft these days. Mogwaisoft Shade I experimented a lot with Shade but never came to any results that actually increased the visuals of FSX for me. Quite the opposite. Regardless of which settings I used it always looked worse.than without it.
  20. Not a good sign (for education): people who mistake the Belgian flag for the German one.
  21. And he's right. Thanks for the update!
  22. He meant it in the sense of "privately owned" forum, which means that the owner makes the rules and freedom of speech doesn't apply here.
  23. Not every day, but I check here several times a week and the lack of updates isn't nice at all.
  24. Nothing to get riled up about. Calm down. I'm just saying that I'm for anything that increases the realism and immersion of a sim. Certain consequences or feedbacks when doing something wrong are part of that. As long as I don't have to pay damages with real money I'm game.
