The NGX During Taxi

Recommended Posts

You can definitely map the steering tiller to a separate joystick axis using the registered FSUIPC. To do this successfully, you need to set up FSUIPC to process both the rudder pedal axis and whatever extra axis you are using for the tiller. (I use the twist grip on an extra joystick for the tiller.)At low taxi speeds, the tiller is the primary directional control. As the takeoff roll begins, the rudder becomes more and more effective. You can set the crossover speed between tiller/rudder in. the ini file for FSUIPC. By default it is 60 knots. The system works very well, but unfortunately in external views the rudder does move with the tiller, due to FSX limitations.Jim Barrett

well, as seen in the posky 777 V2, the rudder got locked while taxing between 10 and 60 knots, so when you pass 60 knots, the rudder will be unlocked and can move. I know, the posky 777 is a TOTALLY different aircraft, but it's still possible to design it. If posky can do it, PMDG should be able to do this also, right?

It hasn't bothered me in anyway. I've survived all Flight Sims with it, I can do it.

Using the axis for the NWS on the B377 doesn't move the rudder but the axis for the rudder also moves the nosewheelStefan Rakel

Just don't look at the rudder when you taxi and all is well :( oh by the way wings don't flex when you taxi but rather they bounce up and down like a cantilever. Excuse me for being pedantic :(

What I care most about this issue, is to see the yaw damper indicator moving while using the rudder. I sadly found it to be completely stationary in the iFly 737 NG and the Wilco 737 CL. I suppose this is gonna be different in the marvelous NGX. I also suppose that no turn co-ordination will be there if I turn off the yaw damper switches. I also expect to see no rudder or NWS deflection while the hydraulic system is not pressurized, as the rudder does not have a mechanical backup like the elevators, THS, and ailerons, which should deflect normally (but more difficult - which might not be possible to sim) while no hydraulic power is available. Trimming THS should also be a lot more slower when no electricity is supplied. I am nearly sure the NGX will include such detailed stuff... correct?

The yaw damper indicator is functional - you can see move it in the night takeoff video, if I remember correctly.

If I remeber correctly, the Leveld 767 together with FS2Crew provides an extra panel with a tiller that you can move with your mouse. You can also select certain buttons on your joystock or keyboard to move the tiller. And in external view only the nosewheel moves.

FSX limitation relating to the nosewheel steering and rudder - they are not separate in the sim unfortunately.
They are separate, partially. You can move the nosewheel without moving the rudder, but moving the FSX rudder is not possible without turning nosewheel. The latter can be hidden so the user won't see it.
