July 19, 201114 yr Hi,I posted this in the FSX section, but no solution found, so someone advised me to post here. I try to sum it up here.My rig and add-ons : I use FSX, Active Sky X, REX 2.0 textures, mainly PMDG add-ons, all with latest updates, my graphic card is a ATI HD5870 with last drivers, CPU I7E860 not o/c, mb P7P55D, 8 gigs RAM, Win 7 64 bits..The facts:Since I switched to FSX, some months ago, I've got a frustrating problem for which I need your help for a solution, even if I know FSX and weather processing might be crap. I spent hours looking for a solution, without success. The problem: randomly, when on final, with bad METARs (mainly visibility under 10km) whatever on which airport, a complete haze layer suddenly appears, even if some seconds ago I was just with some clouds around. When on external view I can't or hardly see wings lights ! Not funny when flying manual landing and no ILS equipment ... BUT, this has, as far as I think, nothing to do with the well known FSX visibility problem:I tried by adding this to my FSX .cfg file under the [GRAPHICS] section "TableFog=0" . Did not work. This is what I posted after my flight of last nite:I was on final of Insbruck (Austria), with a rainy METAR. (9000m visibility) when, on short, once again, that "fog" appeared. This time, I did this :- turning ASX off, turning FSX weather on clear sky (unlimited visibility went OK), then ASX back on => Fog again behind the windshield- turning ASX off, turning FSX weather on real weather => Fog again behind the windshield, so it may not come from ASX ?- in 2D cockpit, looking left or right => can't even see windows or seats, just the fog :(- now the "best", in virtual cockpit => no cockpit, just this milky thing :(- note that in external view, I just can see the wings lights like in heavy fog.So I don't know if it may come from Active Sky X or not. Your knowledge and experience would be more than welcome, I'm lost ...The AVSIM forum saved me with some twilight zone problems in the past, I hope it will be the same once again.Regards.
July 19, 201114 yr Hi,When this happens again please copy and paste the METAR data for the active station in this post and I'll be happy to take a look. Also when thin happens again go to an external view in FS and describe any buildings and trees you can see, if any.
July 20, 201114 yr Author Hi,Thanks for your quick answer. However, I'm having holydays from tomorrow and for 3 weeks, so I'll come back to you afterwards.Just to give you the correct information, I presume I'll copy the METAR from ASX, is this correct ?Regarding the building and trees, 2 situations:- when it happens on final (99% of the cases), I only can see the wings lights, and it really looks like lights in fog (not shiny as it is in clear weather)- It happened a view times on ground, and it's the same, low intensity lights.I'll try to take screenshots + the METAR in 3 weeks. Thanks again for your kind support,Emmanuel.
September 15, 201114 yr Author Hi, it took me time to repost about this. So I just had again the situation in LOWW: AS METAR gives LOWW 33006 9999 BKN049 17/12 Q1021 // IVAP weather Off. This time I took a screen from the virtual cockpit ... As you can see, fog is INSIDE the cockpit ... I got no idea where this bug comes from ... Again, just turning off AS, turning FS weather to clear, then AS on gave me an adequate view. Thanks in advance from your help, I'm lost.
September 15, 201114 yr Author I will have some offline flights, same route and see what happens. I actually fly 100% online. Thanks
September 16, 201114 yr Looking at the 'whiteout' picture above, this was the infamous "super fog" issue commonly noted shortly after FSX was released. I remember Pete Dowson working the issue with with me and tweaking FSUIPC writes which eventually fxed the problem. You can search his forum for the keywords, "Super Fog" and you should find discussions from 3 or 4 years ago. Please make sure you're up to the very latest FSUIPC.dll available from his forum and using FSX SP2, properly installed. Also, confirm with Jim the version ASX you are using to be the latest as well. I don't remember anything other than application updates fixing the issue. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
September 16, 201114 yr Author Hi, FSUIPC is 4.2, registered, I thought it was uptodate, it's not. I'll upgrade to 4.70. SP2 looks fine, ASX is uptodate too. Al, thanks for your feedback.
October 5, 201114 yr Author Hi guys, Just a quick bump to tell you that after FSUIPC upgrade and switch to Active Sky Evolution, no more fog problem. Fingers crossed, but I think you found the problem, Thanks Jim and Al !
