I wish prices were like that in the UK! I'm still on dial-up as I think highspeed broadband network prices here are WAY over-priced. BT offer a 512Kb service for

I have Adelphia 3mb Cable and Im in an area with a new network that does not get much use so I really get great performance. My bandwidth tests average 2800KB to 3200KB/sec for downloads and always around 700KB/sec upload.Actual download speeds will differ greatly depending on the source and how fast they can send. When I download from the Avsim file libray I get a 450Kb - 550Kb/sec average. The best I have ever seen with any download is a solid 600KB/sec.The advantage with the 2 or 3mb connection is the ability to do multiple high bandwidth tasks at once. For example we have two computers on this connection. My wife can be listening to CD quality sound web radio and surfing the web while I am watching large format streaming video and have two downloads going and we dont notice any speed problems. For individual tasks my connection seems no better than my friends DSL connection that is maxed out under 500Kb/sec.The question is... How can anyone use dial up?

How come at my house I have a T-1 and I am getting around 80Kb / sec., while my Direcway Satellite ISP got ~200Kb / sec? More usage in the library?

I have a cable modem and all I know is that it is really fast and I can downloads large files from AVSIM in no time. That is all I care about, I could never go back to dial up!

My cable connection is rated at 10 MBPS, from avsim, on a normal day I get around 1MB a second, a slow day is 400kb's and a fast day is 2MB+, I am using Shaw Cable, only available in Western Canada.

Here's a site that has a speed test. After you run their speed test, you are offered the opportunity to add your test results to other test results for your particular ISP provider. Then you can search by ISP name or zip code to compare your results with the results of other testers on you system or in your locality. http://sfo.speakeasy.net/Larry Florence, MT(who's looking for ward to cable internet service someday!)
