July 26, 201114 yr Author Just one more thing Thomas. What's your case? does it suport ATX boards or just mATX?If you get an Asus board and your case supports ATX, avoid the ones branded "-M" or "-LE", like P8P67-LEP8P67-MP8P67-M ProP8Z68-V LEGet one of these (anyone will do):P8P67P8P67 ProP8Z68-VP8Z68-V ProP8Z68 DeluxeIf your case does only support mATX (uATX) boards, you'll need to pick from these two:P8P67-MP8P67-M ProThanks for keeping me updated...but right now any of those mobos are great for me! as long as i can reach the 4.5/5 ghz I repeat it's great for me!! It's ben a really frustrating day and I wish I never had to live it...but let's keep our fingers crossed, as tomorrow I'll be going to the hardware store to see about the mobo and cooler...Thanks again!! July 26, 201114 yr any of those mobos are great for me!No thomas, what I'm saying is that depending on what case you have, many of those boards won't fit in it. Can you tell us it's brand and model please? Last thing you won't now is to pick a board that's too big for your case

Last thing you won't now is to pick a board that's too big for your caseuuuu that's ancient history! If I'm mistaken, the case was bought in...i think 2003/2004...I had between 5 and 6 years, and my brother handled everything...so I can't remember either the model nor brand...But I don't think that the dink at the hardware store will sell me a mobo that wont' fit, even because he will be the one putting in my new hardware... July 26, 201114 yr Author Let me ask a stupid, stupid question.I know that when changing mobo I can loose everything installed on the computer: when you changed your mobo for the z68 or p67 did you loose anything? or did you have everything the way it was before? TomTheTomable
July 26, 201114 yr Author What OS do you have installed now? is it 32 or 64 bits?64 bit... TomTheTomable
July 26, 201114 yr 64 bit...You should be ok. Set your storage config to IDE before booting into Windows if needed
July 26, 201114 yr Author You should be ok. Set your storage config to IDE before booting into Windows if neededok...how do I do that? TomTheTomable
July 26, 201114 yr You should be ok. Set your storage config to IDE before booting into Windows if neededI don't think this matters with newer mobos and Windows 7. I set mine to AHCI and everything was peachy. And I was already changing back and forth and still everything was good, only auto-driver-install happened upon reboot.I think whatever set, all will be well. AHCI: NCQ support and hot-plug. While NCQ is neat, if drive supports it, hot-plug, is it needed???
July 26, 201114 yr Author So I won't loose anything even though I don't put it any particular mode?? TomTheTomable
July 26, 201114 yr So I won't loose anything even though I don't put it any particular mode?? Definitely not. Changing IDE/AHCI only requires different drivers in Windows. Which are in case of W7 usually being automatically installed accordingly.Losing data happens basically through two actions: user intervention or drive failure.

Do you confirm? If yes, where do I do this change? in the bios? What I would like to know, is if there is something I can do so I don't loose everything on my computer...Thank you for your patience... July 26, 201114 yr Just try it with the default settings, which will most likely be AHCI. If it boots normally, great. If it doesn't (BSOD), you'll need to enter your BIOS pressing "del" at boot time, then go to Advanced -> Sata Configuration -> Sata Mode, and change that to IDEIt's all in the motherboard's manual, you can download it now from the vendor's site if you know which model you're getting and start getting familiar with itDon't worry, you won't lose data or anything like that, it's just a matter of getting Window to boot

But I'm happy to hear that I won't loose anything TomTheTomable
