July 25, 201114 yr hi,I bought the i7 2600 recently...but just now on the MS FSX forum a simmer told me that it can't be overclocked! Is this true? because If it is, it will be horrible news for me!Do I at least have a chance in overclocking this processor!? if "yes" to what speed?thanks... TomTheTomable
July 25, 201114 yr If it is just a 2600 and not a 2600K then no you cannot overclock the 2600. Cheers, Andy.
July 25, 201114 yr Depends on your motherboard, but max 400MHzIf your mobo is a H61 or H67 then you can't overclock at allIf it's a P67 or Z68, then you can overclock, but only 4 bins + turbo. That's 400MHz + Turbo (another 400MHz)That would be 3.8GHz up to 4.2GHz with turbo
July 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the replies...I've just come back from the hardware store...the guy told me that he would get me the 2600K and take back the 2600 so that's good news...For this Thursday he would give me the 2600K with cooler and pretty much what I need so that I can overclock...That was a huge scare.... July 25, 201114 yr I think a LOT of folk fell into that particular trap.Me ALMOST being one of them.If I hadn't come here and seen some of these GREAT posts and very helpful folk...Sorry for you dude.Is there any way you can swap it for the 'K' mdel with your supplier?EDIT: Ha ha. Crossed posts? Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
July 25, 201114 yr Great to hear all is good ThomasI take it your mobo is one of those two chipsets that allow OCing? (P67, Z68)

July 25, 201114 yr Well I have the P8H67..please tell me that one is good!?No, you have an H67. There is no overclocking at all on those chipsets. Does the store you're dealing with know this? :Nail Biting: HenceI take it your mobo is one of those two chipsets that allow OCing? (P67, Z68) Unfortunately you won't be able to overclock my friend. :Sigh: Maybe you can return the board as well? I'd swap it for a Z68. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

I solved that problem, then I found out that my mother-board isn't good either...god...So what I have to do is practically re-do my "whole" computer A well it's many episodes of life that you wish you were never in!So this is what I need to reach a clock speed of at least 4.5 ghz:Intel 2600kH50 coolerZ68/P67 motherboard right?thanks TomTheTomable

I'm sorry your build has been such a pain in the neck. We all have one of those builds. The moral of the story is know exactly what you're spending hundreds (thousands) of dollars on. The H67 has been out since SB launch and it's known as the entry level non-overclocking motherboard. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

Expect something in lines of 25fps, depending on graphics settings and GPU-IQ setting.

What's your case? does it suport ATX boards or just mATX?If you get an Asus board and your case supports ATX, avoid the ones branded "-M" or "-LE", like P8P67-LEP8P67-MP8P67-M ProP8Z68-V LEGet one of these (anyone will do):P8P67P8P67 ProP8Z68-VP8Z68-V ProP8Z68 DeluxeIf your case does only support mATX (uATX) boards, you'll need to pick from these two:P8P67-MP8P67-M Pro
