July 29, 201114 yr Can't really afford an SSD big enough for FSX but... Windows and all other apps, only take up about 54Gb. Do the rules about filling up HDD apply to SSD? Can I use a 60Gb SSD to the max? Thanks, I really appreciate all the help Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
July 29, 201114 yr It still seems like it's best to leave some free space on the drive, especially if not using trim. Also make sure that you remember to allow for your page file when estimating size. My W7x64 Ult installation with a system managed page file relating to 8GB of RAM takes up about 25GB. Have a look at this thread for a little real world comparison on the question at hand - http://www.overclock.net/ssd/849385-interesting-intel-x-25m-g2-benchmarks.html i7 2600k @ 5.1Ghz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950MHz, OCZ Vertex II 240GB, ASUS Xonar DG, Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W PSU, Antec KÜHLER 620 W/C, Corsair 600T SE White My FS9 Screens - http://fs9screens.blogspot.com/ Callum Richardson
July 29, 201114 yr If you want to boot from a SSD you will need to turn on AHCI rather than IDE access in your motherboard. I learned that the hard way.
