July 31, 201114 yr Hi, I have noticed that when im flying the MD-11 my saitek throttle quadrant has no affect on the throttle in the aircraft. It works fine when im taking off etc but once in the air and with the autopilot of my throttle movements have no impact ??? Alan
July 31, 201114 yr Hi Alan,If you've engaged autopilot by pressing the button in the middle of the MCP then you've engage both Autothrottle and the Autopilot. Sounds like you've set it so control inputs won't affect your autopilot or autothrottle when they are engaged. This is probably the best setting as control spikes could end up disengaging the autopilot. Disengage the Autothrottle and your throttle will work again. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
July 31, 201114 yr Author I havent engaged an auto pilot system. I make a manual takeoff and climb out then the engines will throttle back by themselves 10% or so then i have no control over them. I am getting the "power set" call out on my takeoff roll and the click which is uncommanded. Alan
August 1, 201114 yr Hi Alan, So you're not touching the "Autoflight" button at all? And you're getting just one "click" as you advance the throttles forward or two? A power reduction through climb out would suggest the engines going from CLAMP to climb thrust depending on your flex setting. Somebody else might be able to help you better as I always use the A/T for takeoffs. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
August 1, 201114 yr If you pushed "Prof" before takeoff, that arms the auto-throttle once airborne, you'll need to disengage it manually if you did... Rónán O Cadhain.
August 1, 201114 yr Commercial Member If you pushed "Prof" before takeoff, that arms the auto-throttle once airborne, you'll need to disengage it manually if you did...That is not correct. Pressing "PROF" only arms vertical guidance but will NOT arm ATS nor activate it once airborne. You need to press AUTO FLIGHT to do that. Unless of course you are in a low speed situation when airborne, the low speed protection will activate ATS if triggered. Regards,Markus Markus Burkhard

Once you pass the level set for changing from flex to climb thrust in the TO/APPR page, if Prof was armed it will kick in the ATS, I've just tried it.... Rónán O Cadhain.

I didn't remember that detail... It's been a couple of years I admit, my mind is mostly Airbus now But just to confirm for the original poster. Hitting PROF on ground is not the same as hitting AUTO FLIGHT on ground regarding ATS. Cheers,Markus Markus Burkhard
August 1, 201114 yr No it's not, hitting the autoflight on the ground will arm the ATS for takeoff mode whereas if you hit the Prof you'll just arm the climb thrust to come in at about 1700ft after takeoff. No problem, and I tend to have airbus on the brain too lol... Rónán O Cadhain.
August 1, 201114 yr No problem, and I tend to have airbus on the brain too lol... I think we should be quite thankful for that Perhaps the PROF during climb out is what's causing it. We'll see what Alan says. Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
August 1, 201114 yr I think we should be quite thankful for that Yeh that would come in handy, all considering...Anyway if it's not the Prof thing giving you the trouble let me know. Rónán O Cadhain.
