New PC - Poor FPS?

Featured Replies

Hello! I recently bought myself a new computer with following specifications:Intel i5 2500kAMD HD6950 2GIG RAM4GB DDR3 1600MhzThis is running on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate I have tried to tweak my FS X via several methods that I found on this forum and google.I use Real Environment Xtreme and various payware airplanes. (767-747-...) Hence this new PC and tweaks my FPS in flight simulator is poor. On the ground I get 10-15fps, in air 15-25 fps (depending on the weather).Does anyone know if I did anything specifically wrong, or does anyone have any tips? I cannot imagine FS X not running smoothly on this computer. I don't have to have all settings maxed out, but I would like them to be close to maximum. Thanks in advance!

Do you overclock? If not, you are missing out on a lot there!

I'm going to blame it on your AMD card. They suck in clouds compared to nvidia. How are the fps if you select clear skies?

I am using an AMD/ATI card and that too a HTPC and not a gaming card, to be honest I am pulling satisfying frames almost every where. Yes the default .dds files are native to Nvidia. Decrease your clouds. First use the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in FSX.cfg under the ( [Graphics] ) section, I think it is meant for GFX with high memory. use low/mid water settings , traffic will kill fps, ground traffic below 10% should be good. Don't use Bloom. Terrain radius 50%. cloud draw distance below 70. Make autogen either dense or extreme dense. rename default.xml to any you want BUT DO NOT DELETE IT. If you have PMDG girls they may be very heavy, if you check my sig I am hardly using any high intensity stuff. REX is heavy too. Try lowering you resolution. NOTE I AM GETTING GOOD FRAMES IN CLEAN WEATHER. Try the above settings and let us know.

Why not tell what settings you have in CCC? SuperSampling, or? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge...! Whistle.gif BTW I have a 6970 2Gb, and it´s a pain, a real pain in da b*** - but sure, if AA4x, Performance Q, and Combined S is OK then be my AMD Radeon guest, but otherwise, I will never ever buy their crap again, never! Bazz: Google "flash the AMD 6950 to a 6970", maybe that will get you some more power... Or overclock the card, or both... Oh, I forgot, set the ATI E-record in HKEYLOCAL to 0: http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?2639-Performance-Tip-for-AMD-GPU-users-for-stutter-lag

Do not use FSX AA, use the one in CCC mine is set AAx4.

Been twinking around with Catalst Control Center and its various amount of settings but I have no clue what improves the FSX experience? If tried setting up AA but this only seems to worsten my quality!

I am using CCC 11.7 with AA enabled, Multisampling , Catalyst AI Advanced. Did you put in the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in fsx.cfg ? Hope you have SP1 & SP2 installed for multicore. AA should be disabled under FSX. Please post all settings you have under FSX, maybe I can try and figure it out. But even an i7 or a Phenom can be brought down to its knees by FSX (F****ing S***X ) Cry.gif About the FPS limiter it does not show performance for everyone.

Indeed, had not switched that off aparantly.. What about the Filtering in the FSX settings? Should that be none / bilineair / ...?

I use anisotropic, in fact the filtering does not matter at least to what I have seen, switch off lens flare and light bloom. Be carefull with the Water and traffic, use WOAI for traffic.
