August 3, 201114 yr I know similar things have been asked many times before but I really need this in terms for a computer layman.Apparently, using GEX, UTX, Scenery Tech, Ultimate Airport Environment X, REX, and ASE together will all work. Basically my question is will it all just work if I just install them all one after the other? Also is it worth getting all of them or do they just do the same thing? Another question is I have heard it is better to use REX textures with the ASE weather engine, how is this done? Do add on airports (e.g. an airport addon specifically for Gatwick) automatically overwrite the Airport Environment X in that area or will Airport Environment prevent addon airports working? In short: please explain how all these ground/sky/airport textures/landclass (whatever the difference between landclass and textures is) work together and how to get the best. Thanks! August 3, 201114 yr I'm not familiar with Ultimate Airport Environment X, but it looks as if there is some overlap with REX. GEX and REX are both texture replacement products (different textures), and installation in both cases is a two-step process: 1) Install product to the PC, and 2) run product to backup and then replace default textures. ASE can be installed at any time. Once you have installed and run the REX product, the appropriate REX textures will automatically be displayed in the sim, you don't have to do any special ASE configuration. UTX and Scenery Tech landclass can be installed at any time, but for them to work properly together you need to do some repositioning in the scenery library. If you let us know exactly what UTX and Scenery Tech products you have it will be easier to give specific instructions. August 3, 201114 yr So if I install REX but use ASE to configure weather ASE will automatically use the REX textures? Exactly. That's how I use REX + ASE. Install UTX Europe and Scenery Tech Europe landclass. Then open the scenery library and find two entries, "UT Landclass - Vegetation" and "UT Landclass - Urban". Move the Scenery Tech entry so it sits between these two UT entries. August 3, 201114 yr Author And GEX I can just install at any time and leave it (after running it to replace textures)? Thank you! I finally think I understand this all! Will Wilson
August 3, 201114 yr And GEX I can just install at any time and leave it (after running it to replace textures)? Correcting myself a little bit, you can install GEX at any time, but you should run (or re-run) the GEX interface after installing UTX since GEX contains some textures that enhance the UTX stuff. Once you have installed GEX and run the interface to replace textures, you generally don't need to touch it again. REX is a bit different since it has a lot of texture variations, so you probably want to run the REX interface to install a new set of textures once in a while. (Personally I cannot be bothered to make a lot of detail REX texture choices, so I just let the interface create a new random set and install it once in a while in order to get some variation). EDIT: Just in case you also use ORBX FTX: Make sure that you run GEX to replace textures only with FTX Central set to "Default FSX" Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
August 3, 201114 yr Thank you so much! This has been confusing me for a while!NP, glad to help. Tom Risager NGX tutorial: http://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?Location=AVSIM&Proto=ftp&DLID=162360 SIDs & STARs Worked Examples: LOWI-UUDD, KSEA-KLAX, EKCH-ENGM, YSCB-YPAD
November 14, 201114 yr Author Digging up an old topic here I know but I just found FScene X and FSGlobal. What do these do and how do they integrate with the above? Thanks, Will Wilson
November 14, 201114 yr FS Scene X is a texture replacement, and FS Global is Mesh. ( fs genisus is also mesh, and is worth a look) if you are using GEX, you won't need FS Scene. System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A, Intel i9-14900KF, Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. WinWing FCU, EFIS, MCDU
November 15, 201114 yr Author So none of the above does the same as FS Global/FS Genesis but GEX does the same as FS Scene X so no need for it? Will Wilson
November 16, 201114 yr That is correct.FS Global is a mesh addon and you didn't mention a mesh addon before in this topic. GEX is landtextures (and so is FS Scene X so no need for that unless it covers territory that GEX doesn't cover), UTX is mainly real world roads and waters together with landclass, Scenery Tech also is landclass (but according to some better then UTX landclass, so they can be used togeter, where Scenery tech takes over part of the landclass part of UTX: hence why you have to move it between the UTX layers), REX is textures like water, skies, clouds, airports and a weather engine and ASE is also a weather engine but better then REX so a lot of people (if not most) use REX for textures and ASE for weather creation.Personally I went the Orbx-way, so I forgot about UTX and all those mesh and landclass addons: Orbx's FTX offers all that in one awesome looking package. All you need beside Orbx is REX and ASE and the world is perfect. ;) Obviously FTX doesn't cover the entire world (yet).
November 16, 201114 yr Author Thanks! The only trouble is I mostly fly around the U.K./Europe so FTX is nowhere near there yet! Will Wilson
November 27, 201114 yr Author Where does FS Global fit in the scenery library? Also what about future UTX and Scenery Tech such as U.S.? Will Wilson
