August 6, 201114 yr Hi all, First of all, thank you to PMDG for a wonderful and immersive product, it's been great so far although I have a couple of questions regarding tutorial 1 as I've yet to complete it smoothly. The biggest problem for me so far is trying to get down to the VREF+5 speed, even with the speed brakes deployed I seem to be landing way too fast. The problems seem to start early on in the STAR when I receive a "DES PATH UNACHIEVABLE" in the CDU, somewhere around NIRSI for those of you familiar with the tutorial. The aircraft intercepts the localizer and glideslope correctly, however, where the FMA states the ILS frequency and course in the top left corner, the course is in yellow with a line through it. I've made sure that the course frequency is the 184 degrees that matches the FMC. By the end of the approach I'm focusing so much on getting the speed down I don't even have time to look at the HGS! Any help would be much appreciated, Many Thanks, Anthony Hammond FSX + Acceleration | PMDG 747-400X | PMDG MD-11X | LVL D 767-300 | UTX Europe | REX 2.0 | Saitek X52 FCS | Saitek RP
August 6, 201114 yr Just finished my first successful flight using the tutorial, and had to use the spoilers a little to slow, but didn't have the issues you describe, and the autoland was perfect (love it!) - I can only wonder, did you dial the MCP ALT down to 2000 early enough, so that the VNAV started descent on time? Did you keep an eye on the CDU to check for "drag required" messages and apply spoilers as need be? My experience with these complex ac is that 99% of my problems are caused when I miss something. I do that a good bit :) Paul Skol
August 6, 201114 yr The autopilot is doing a great job keeping the speed down ... I didn't even get the drag requiered somehow stranglyIt works pretty well ... just be sure to use the flaps as soon as you can (210knots) and at flaps 10/15 gear down and it will slow down magicly.Don't wait for the 1 or 2 or 5 on the speedtape ... just flaps down and it will select the correct speed P.L. August 6, 201114 yr Good point: I wasn't quite clear on the flaps extension - but throwing 'em down certainly seemed to help slow it, as did lowering the gear. Paul Skol
August 6, 201114 yr Author Thanks for your suggestions folks, I agree its definitely something I'm doing and there is quite a workload at that stage of the flight. I know the landing gear has come down way too late and that does have a big drag effect, I'm going to give the tutorial another shot now and I'll let you know how I get on!
