RNAV question past FAF

Recommended Posts

Everything was going well for me into LAS on vatsim, until the plane stopped descending at the FAF on the RNAV 19R into LAS. The altitudes were in the vnav profile but it wouldn't descend below 4500 without manual input. I was under the impression this thing would fly to minimums (sorta like a WAAS approach with LPV guidance). Chart: http://aeronav.faa.g...8/00662R19R.PDF Are these planes not certified for that sort of thing? In my pic I'm hand flying now but it caught me off guard... Everything looks setup properly:rnav19R_lasfail.jpg

Hey Ryan, you had 4500 set on the MCP altitude my friend! Once established on the approach, set the field elevation on the mcp.

Your also in alt hold mode. Ensure you understand what the PFD is describing to you.

Yes George is right on this. Whenever the plane is doing something that you aren't understanding ALWAY look at the FMA.ALWAYS! Your MCP means nothing really, well kinda. But just like George, I looked at your FMA, saw ALT HOLD and thats what made me look at you 4500 feet in the mcp. FMA is the boss!

The procedure I read for RNAV approaches was once established on the approach set the FAF altitude in the MCP, then when the FAF is the active waypoint set your MDA( rounded up) in the MCP.Once you pass the FAF and are ~300' below your missed approach altitude, set your missed approach altitude in the MCP. Now if you go missed your all set up. Dash Rogers

VNAV will not descend below the altitude in the MCP window. In your case it is 4,500, once it gets to that altitude it will level off. If you had 6,000 it would level off there. Set your MCP to the field elevation and then it will descend passed 4,500 feet. hope i was able to help.
