August 7, 201114 yr I am trying to find the FSX cfg file so I can change the screen resolution after installing a new 32" monitor. The FSX program will not start. Terry
August 7, 201114 yr Should be in your C:/Documents and Settings/(Your username)/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX/fsx.cfg If you don't see it, Terry, open Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder Options-View, and check "Show hidden files". i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 7, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the help. The hidden files are checked to see but still cannot locate the file in the location you typed. yes I did put my name in the user name space. Any other ideas? Terry
August 7, 201114 yr Try.........Start...................Run.......................%appdata%\Microsoft\FSX
August 7, 201114 yr Here is mine, under my old XP:- C:\Users\pj\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\ ..and under Windows 7:- C:\Users\pj\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\ i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 7, 201114 yr Why not delete the CFG file and let FSX rebuild it from scratch. Then you can tweak it. Cheers, - jahman.
August 8, 201114 yr He can't delete it because he can't find it..... i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 8, 201114 yr Ah! Right! (In File Explorer, there's always F3 "Search" for "fsx.cfg"...) Cheers, - jahman.
August 8, 201114 yr Couple of ways to reset the config file without knowing where it is. You can hold down the CAPS_LOCK and CONTROL keys while the app is launching, you can add a -RESETINI switch to the FSX command line, or you can add a -CFG switch with no path\filename to the FSX command line (normally, it would be -CFG:d:\SomePath\SomeFile.cfg - this form lets you use different .CFG files for different setups). August 8, 201114 yr Author Thank you everyone for the suggestions and ideas. I finally got the FSX to run but at 1280 x 768 (native res) for the TV/monitor, the panels are all stretched out and the detail is not so good. I did match the monitor settings in FSX to match the tv's. Any ideas on this new problem?Again thanks,Terry
