  1. Retired military. I have been flight simming since working on the F-4E and F-111D simulators in the Air Force. Also made people glow in the dark managing a diagnostic radiology department. Finally worked as a aircraft dispatcher. Terry
  2. Jim, Glad you got it working now. Maybe Santa will bring me a 4K too. Terry
  3. Jim, I do not believe you are going to get max 4k resolution with that particular connection. You will need a HDMI cable with enough speed to carry the signal. Also you will need to plug it into the correct port on the computer and tv. You can do a google check for 4k HDMI requirements and or there are some posts here at AVSIM that explain the requirements for getting those nice 4K pictures. Hope this helps Terry
  4. I cannot say yes or no to does windows 10 leave files behind. I tried to go back to windows 7 pro after 7 months and windows 10 would not allow me to load/boot from the 7 disk or from inside windows 10 it's self. It would turn off the mouse and keyboard which are both USBs. Finally took it into the shop where it was built and they removed both smaller ssd's and replaced them with one larger one plus put the computer back to Windows 7 Pro. While running windows 10, after a period of time, more things stopped working on FSX til finally it would not even reload due to missing/mismatched files. Since FSX is so old, the newer windows 10 must not have needed those older XP and 7 files. Terry
  5. Update: Jim, Thought maybe the problem was gone after doing a complete remove and replace the FSX program. Moved it from the F drive to the C drive. Every thing still is default except changed Wide Screen from False to True and added HighMem.Fix =1. Flew bothe the default C-172 and taxied the 737. When I tried to move the terrain mesh from default to max and then the terrain res from 38M to max then that is were it died and gave me the same old report.below. Terry
  6. Jim, Did as you suggested and removed the ui dll from FSX. Doing so it would not even start so put back and program starts again but dies when aircraft is taking off. Also ran the MS Dotnet repair tool. Looked like it did something but sill stops program after running that program too. This is the latest error msg data. Also have MS Visual C++ 2005 through 2013. Also a MS ASP.Net MVC 4 Runtime. Supposedly, Win10 is up to date when I went to the update window and did a manual forced update. Would not the Net framework be part of that and or the monthly Tuesday updates? Almost ready to go back to Win 7 pro except I would have to wipe the entire computer and then put up with MS nagging to update or now possible buy Win 10. I have limited vision and this does not seem like fun at this pres tent time. Thanks for helping out and hope I can find a more simple fix short of going back to Win 7. Terry PS: When I reloaded FSX this morning, I was not able to move it to the C drive as planned. When I deleted it the last time, using the uninstall feature only uninstalled the SP2 and not the entire FSX program. Since I could not remove it any further, I removed the folders which appears to have been the wrong move. Think I will try to remove FSX this time via the installation disk program of fix/remove. Then at least I can put everything on one SSD and maybe I will stop getting the above error?
  7. This is an updated version of my first post of the error log below. Basically, is the log telling me it cannot find FSX files on my F drive and the config files that get placed on the C drive? As stated in the first initial post, The program has worked fine in this config up until now. Even when I completely removed all of FSX to include the setting files and reloaded it all on the c drive, I still was getting the same program halts. Hope this helps. 8. For almost a year, I have been running FSX in windows 10 with very few problems. Now I am lucky to get FSX to stay running maybe once or twice out of a dozen starts. Nothing has changed in my system except for NVIDA driver updates (GTX 980) and the automatic Microsoft updates. I have zero add-ons and run default aircraft. Have added the MS FSX SP1 and 2. FSX runs on it's own SSD as it always has. Have reloaded FSX several times with no fix to the problem. Even tried running FSX on the C drive and still the same results. The computer is a I 7 4790 @ 3.6 GHZ, 16 MB ram, GTX 980, Win 10 Pro 64, Ver 1511, build 10586.420. Again the FSX use to run just fine up until about a month ago. Even tried rolling back two or three versions of the vido drivers just to see if they might have changed something. The answer was no. Any ideas on how to fix this? Terry
  9. Current TV and monitors are all limited by how much "DATA" can be delivered to them. There are several different HDMI cables and right now if you have the standard 1.4 hdmi cable your 4k TV will only support 30 Hz. If you have the newer hdmi 2.0 cable, it can transmit enough data to display at .60 Hz. Then there is another cable (not hdmi) that can handle 4 k and up right now. Some of the higher end tV/monitors have these and that might be wheat you are seeing , thinking they are a strange hdmi plug. This link explains all of this much better than I can. http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/hdmi-2-0-vs-1-4 Hope this helps. Terry
  10. Thanks for the engine link. Unfortunately, I was not able to log into the site to down load it. Terry
  11. Thanks for the heads up on the 737-800 sounds. Funny thing though, the 747 in FSX does not sound anything like the 737 it is suppose to be imitating.. I wonder why and how that overly loud base/background cockpit and exterior noise can be changed. Terry
  12. Has anyone ever noticed that the default 747-400s in FSX have only one sound level? (Loud). Are there any adjustments or add on sound files that are more realistic? Setting all of the sound sliders in FSX to zero does no good when flying the 747. Terry
  13. Thanks for the heads up on the flight report. It has been quite a whale (35 years) since I have flown the F-4C aircraft and the F-4E simulator. After watching several of the videos that are linked to yours (the F-4E video) a lot of the numbers and procedures have started to come back. I do remember they use to train the student pilots to use the rudder to roll when in a high AOA condition. I also remember that we had a ARI (aileron rudder interconnect) that did a good job of keeping things under control but you still could not fly with your feet flat on the floor either. We had a "Hard Over" rudder failure we would give usually on short final or when the instructor wanted the crew to punch out. I seem to remember if you were quick enough to hit the paddle switch on the stick, you then could reach over and pull the ARI C/B and regain control. We had 7 C/Bs in the front seat and several hundred back seat. I spent a entire night shift trouble shooting a INS write-up along with a retired sim tech without any idea why it would not work. We knew our mainframe computer that ran the entire sim, the interface system, and the INS box in the cockpit were all good. While leaning over the side of the cockpit setting it up for our daily pref light inspection, I noticed one of those two hundred thirty C/Bs pulled out. That is why the INS would not work. Pushed it back in and signed off the 781 forms and we we good to go. The only way you could view most of those C/Bs was to stand on your head so I do not know how they pulled it in flight unless they ran the seat all they way down to the cockpit floor. Have you ever noticed how many of the switches and levers in the cockpit are a specific shape? When you are busy flying the jet (looking outside) you do not want to have to put your head down/inside to do something like switching fuel tanks, operating the flaps or selecting guns or missiles. I am not sure if the modern day aircraft still have this feature or maybe it is done now with computers. Terry PS: Is the F-4 payware or freeware? I have not seen it in the AVSIM library before. I am flying the T-45 freeware they have and it would be nice to fly some heavier iron.
  14. Nice video. Good mix of formation flying and inside the cockpit. The marking on the jet looks like it was from the weapos school at Nellis AFB. Terry
  15. No not a flight engineer. Too blind for a Air Force flight physical even though I was a civilian instructor pilot (FAA). I take it the tail strikes on the 141s were after they stretched it into the B model? Terry
  16. Good Morning Nicholas, I never got to fly on the C-130 but took the 5 level cdc course for flight engineer on it. Hard to believe the aircraft started flying in the 50s and still is flying now over 60 years later. Kind of like the B-52.. Never flown in the C-17 either but looks like they could be a lot of fun too with the fighter type stick vs a airliner type yoke. Did fly in the old C-141 back in the mid 70s going in and out of Thailand. The model of F-4 depicted is definitely not a F=4E. In your link above and this link, you will see that the F-4E has a longer and more slender nose. Also the fairing under the nose house the M-61 Vulcan 20MM cannon which is internal verses a add-on gun pod used on the C and D model F-4s. https://www.google.com/search?q=f-4e+phantom+pictures&sa=X&biw=1536&bih=758&tbm=isch&imgil=S2LV26CFMNoP5M%253A%253BCWT11FojauHNcM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fen.wikipedia.org%25252Fwiki%25252FList_of_McDonnell_Douglas_F-4_Phantom_II_variants&source=iu&pf=m&fir=S2LV26CFMNoP5M%253A%252CCWT11FojauHNcM%252C_&usg=__XYpYMbKGsQRVhj9MQ2gpPVyojio%3D&dpr=1.25&ved=0ahUKEwiuv5Orlb7MAhUHxiYKHY8bDjEQyjcILw&ei=cbwoV-7CBoeMmwGPt7iIAw#imgrc=S2LV26CFMNoP5M%3A The Navy B models which this one is has a more rounded nose/radar dome. It really does not matter what paint job is on a aircraft, but what is under the pain that counts. Now as for the airshow, maybe shewing cockpit and external shots together might give the viewer some sense of what it is like to be flying. The external shots are very good and I do not think I could fly like that using only external views. As for the cockpit noise, the one thing I remember, remember this was a few years ago. (10 Jun 81, tail number 64868) Had to go back to my pilot log book to get the date. While there noticed the flight was not 1.5 hours but 2.0 hours. My pilot was a short tiime Captain and Ip (instructor pilot) so he could legally sign me off as dual instruction in the aircraft. Also at that time, I had 320 hours i in my log book which is about what a new Air Force pilot training into the F-4 would have. Sorry about the wondering off topic. The cockpit nose level once the canopy is closed is "Very" quiet. Remember you have a helmet on with cup type earphones so that might cut some noise but you could talk at normal voice levels with no problem. As for the hydraulic and gear noise, yes they made noise but nothing strange. I would say maybe what you hear in a modern jet airliner. As for the F-104s, that would be great to see the zippers (F-104) do something like that. Beside having the two F-4E sims in our building, we had one F-104G sim also. The Germans trained on the F-104G there on base along withe F-15 A and F-15B models. The F-104s were similar in their cockpits and both had aircraft of the GE J-79 engine.. Also at that time, there was one civilian F-104 built out of spare parts that was trying to go for a record flight but crashed when the pilot had to eject due to engine problems. As far as the recommendation for the video, I will try but I do not know how to use all of that fancy social media stuff. I do not know how to send/receive a message on the cell phone which is over 7 years old. This forum is about as technical as I get. Terry
  17. Love the F-4 video. Looks like someone has spent a lot of time building the aircraft and making the video. I do believe that naming this model of F-4 a "E" model is not quite correct. I spent over 6 years working on the USAF F-4E flight simulators at Luke AFB AZ. This particular model is definitively not a E. We had two E model sims on base and that is what the students trained on. As far as the jets on the flight-line, they were the F-4C. Once the students got to the operational units they were flying the E's. The AirForce had the C, RF-4C, D, E, and G models Later on they converted some to drones at the end of the F-4 life span. As far as this site shows, the Navy/Marines flew the B, N, and I think the S. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_McDonnell_Douglas_F-4_Phantom_II_variants All these models had different configurations in avionics and engines. I also seem to remember the Navy model did not allow the Gib (Guy in back) to fly the jet. No flight controls. He only worked the radar and other magic in the pit. The big difference between the AF C and E models was the E had more thrust, and leading edge slats. Also different radars and INS units. The main items such as flight controls and basic air frames, were similar. I had hundreds of hours flying the sim while doing pre-flights for daily training and working on write-ups from the previous days flights. Sometimes when a Navigator/WSO (weapon system operator) student and instructor showed up for a scheduled block with no pilot, I would be drafted to fly for them which was great fun for me.. Other times the students were short a instructor and I was pressed in to running the instructor console. Since one of the biggest complaint we would hear from the crews was the "Box" (flight sim" did not have the same feel as the real jet. Close but no cigar. That search for a more realistic feel got me a 1.5 hour flight in the real F-4C. The crews were correct. The simulator was much harder to fly than the real jet. Having flown only general aviation type aircraft, (Cessna, Beech, and Piper) the F-4C was the largest aircraft I had flown but yet it felt as comfortable to me as a Cessna 150./172. I always thought that if the F-4 had been upgraded with F-15/16 type engines and newer avionics she would still be flying today. Since that never happened, flying models such as this one on your desktop sim is the next best thing. Terry
  18. Hi there Slip-stream, I too am looking for either a 4K monitor or TV to use with FSX. From what I have found out about "Display Ports" connectors, they are able to pass larger amounts of data vs the standard 1.4 HDMI. That means that TV/monitors without a display port will only be able to run at 30 Hz i@ 4K. If normal 2K HD they can do the 60 Hz OK. But that is not what we want, right? Need all that extra band width for the 4K signal. Good news for the HDMI people. They do have a new 2.0 connector that will be able to do 60 Hz but not that many out there yet. For now best to go the display port route to insure you get the 60 Hz 4K data. The following link will help explain this even more. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/feature/digital-home/displayport-vs-hdmi-whats-difference-3535257/ Also note, make sure your video card has a display port connection. Most high end cards have multiple connections for display port, hdmi , etc. Terry
  19. Thanks for the help with the resolution problem and FSX vs P3D at 4K. If FSX is capable of allowing my GTX 980 to generate a 4K image to a 4K monitor, I might as well save some money and just upgrade the monitor and not the sim. Besides I am not real keen on having to purchase P3D on line only.I do not like to place financial data out there where the bad guys can get to it. Guess I am still a brick and mortar guy. My only problem is how close can I put a larger 4K screen from my eyes without a lot of eye strain. The old 42" 1080P really hurt viewing at the 3 foot distance I have on the desktop. With the smaller 27" LG screen, I can put my nose on the screen with no problems other than it is a lot smaller image. Terry
  20. My Sanyo tv is a 42" 1080p. The monitor is a LG 27" http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27MP38VQ-B-led-monitor Yes I understand dots per inch and how they compare to the various screen sizes. My main question is "Does FSX have enough texture resolution/detail to be properly displayed on a 4K screen? " If you take a picture/video with a 1080p camera, you cannot expect a true 4K image displayed on the 4K screen where as if you have "Both" a 4 K camera and monitor, you get the "Full" 4K image. Yes I know there are some TVs that massage the 1080P image to make it think it is 4K but still it is not a "True" image. Again, does FSX have enough code/detail/resolution to make a true 4K image? Now is there a "Big" difference between FSX and P3D in image resolution? Yes I understand P3D probably has more "Detail" /bells and whistles than FSX but does it have more image resolution that could translate to a 4K quality image? That is my question. PS: since upgrading my system to a 4790 and a GTX 980 with 16 Gb of ram and dual SSDs, the 10 year old FSX looks really good when all the settings are full right locked in at 40FPS. There is a lot of detail I never knew was in FSX until I had a machine that could run it.
  21. Can you really tell the difference in image quality when running FSX on a 4 k monitor vs a 1080p/ Does the program really have the resolution to make this happen? I have been thinking of getting a larger monitor as my current LG 27" @ 1080p is nice but small. I hooked up the 1080p Sanyo tv to the computer and the video while larger was not real good when running FSX. I did run the 4K video demos on the tv and they looked better and as good as they do on the 27" monitor. That is why I am asking about FSX quality on a 4K screen. Terry
  22. I have known several airport dogs that will jump in anyone's plane for a free flight but this is the first time I have sen them at the controls. Terry
  23. Very Important Update to the T-45C. The inverted ADI has been fixed. Many thanks to Dino Cattaneo and the T-45C staff/crew for the ADI update. Sure make a big difference when flying in instrument and visual conditions, especially when you are in an unusual attitude.. Terry T-45C Goshawk for Flight Simulator X: Acceleration and Lockheed Martin Prepar3d V1.X and V2.x Version 2.83 By Dino Cattaneo (Released April 7th 2016) Please visit my blog for updates and feeback: indiafoxtecho.blogspot.com or like Indiafoxtecho on facebook! ********************************************************** IMPORTANT! STARTING FROM VERSION 2.70 P3Dv2 WORKING MIRRORS EFFECTS IS SUPPORTED: NOTE: To install this feature, please look into the OPTIONAL FEATURES/WORKING MIRRORS subfolder and: 1 - Replace the aicraft.cfg with the one in this folder. 2 - Replace the model.cfg in the MODEL folder with the one in this folder. You may want to backup the original files. REVISION HISTORY VERSION 2.83 - Fixed ADI graphics (light area = sky, dark area = ground)
  24. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I sent a post to Dino's site referencing all of the comments made here. Looks like they are a work in progress with the T-45C as noted on his site. Terry
  25. HighBypass, Good job on finding the video to show the ADI in the FSX aircraft seems to be modeled in reverse. Also several other videos to include the one titled "once around the boat" show the lighter side up and darker side down as one would expect them to be. All I can think is that the builder of this nice looking FSX model jet is doing so with maybe a Eastern Block/European type instrument design. As I mentioned in my earlier post, a Russian trained flight crew crash either a Airbus or Boeing passenger jet because the ADI display was not the same as what he had been use to and had trained on. To all who gave input to this question, many thanks. The flight handling/performance information was very useful to know. Many years ago, I worked on the F-4E flight simulator in the Air Force. One of the key complaints by the crews was, "hey chief", the real airplane does not fly like this. One day I got a chance to fly the real jet (F-4C) and they were right. It did not fly like the sim. It was "much easier to fly". Partially do to the seat of the pants feeling we could not replicate in the sim and partially do to the lack of a quality visual system back then. (late 70s early 80s) Where the sim shined was in the ability to train a new crew "safely" in procedures that hopefully one day they would "Not" need to use. We had crews come in "the box" and tell us that what they had practiced saved the bacon in the real world. By the way, my aviation experience at the time was a real world VFR Commercial Cessna driver with lots of F-4 sim flights. Maybe the information in this post will get back to T-45C builder and he will be able to make the modification to the ADI so that it will in my opinion display the way the real jet does. Terry
