FSUIPC settings.

Hi guy's,I was wondering what other people's settings are in the visibility and clouds settings. What gives you the best overall quality and performance. I've been playing around with the settings but can't seem to decide as I don't know what some of the settings actually do if modified. If you have any insight as to what the values should/could be set to, please tell me.ThanksMikkel

Good question.I purchased FSUIPC and installed it. That's it. I got it because I was told that it is a "must have" utility. I don't have a clue as to what it does or what it can do. I printed the docs but to be painfully embarassingly honest, I can hardly understand any of the docs. But that's my problem. Most everyone else seems to have been able to use FSUIPC to its fullest potential.I've looked through all of the tabs and such but I think I need to understand the docs before I goe messing around inside FSUIPC.That's why I hope someone responds to your question. That would be a start in the learning process for me.Regards,DonaldS

Phew...I'm glad I'm not the only one here that finds the manual a bit confusing. I really hope someone replies so I can get the full benefit of the program...Here's to hoping. :)Mikkel

Hi,Are you using a weather add-on? If no add-on, then I highly recommend these options:Wind smoothing ON (default params): Smoothes wind changes when flying in global wx area zonesVisibility Smoothing ON (default params): Smoothes all vis changesRandom Extend METAR Maxima ON: Brings better realism when using real wxGraduated Visibility ON (default params): Veritical visibility smoothing so you don't go from socked in to clear in one instant when ascending through the vis layer ceilingBaro Smoothing ON (default params): Smoothes pressure changesRandom icing in clouds OFF: prevents stuck pitot tube (zero airspeed) even with non-severe ice and PITOT heat on, an FS9 bugOccasional high cirrus layer ON: adds high cirrus cloud layers for better realism and visualsThese are the main options which can really improve things for you. Of course there are plenty more features to take advantage of too. You really should just experiment with changes until you find what best suits you. If using a weather add-on with FS9, keep in mind that many of these features (or variations thereof) will be handled by the weather add-on itself, so make sure to check the wx add-on docs in this case.Hope that helps!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

FSUIPC's most important task is allowing other programs to communicate with FS. Although the information communicated can be almost anything, the most common use for this process is likely the various weather generators available. This function of FSUIPC typically requires little or no input from the user. What you get by registering FSUIPC is the ability to use it to exert some influence directly over the sim. Have a look at the menu options (located under 'Modules' on the main FS menu, if you haven't found it). You can influence some of the weather defaults; control a few miscellaneous settings in FS (like preventing the battery from running down...). You can also use FSUIPC to map pretty much any command in FS to any key or joystick button. All the FS commands are available this setup routine. You can also very accurately calibrate your game controllers using FSUIPC.Really and truly, the biggest thing is that you have it installed. As such, the myriad of programs, modules and gauges that use it will work for you.Regards,Doug Dawson

Thank you Damian,I'm not using any weather add-on, but I'm using the real weather by fs9, although the static option as I hate the way clouds sometimes disappear and then suddenly pop-up. I didn't quite understand how FSUIPC works when I'm using the static option, in the manual it says something about some of the options not working when using real weather...could you explain it to me?ThanksMikkel

This reply is for all-I posted on Pete Dowson's forum with the comment that his manual for FSUIPC, written for both FS2002 and FS9, was very confusing in my opinion. I wrote that it was hard, for me at least, to separate out what applied to FS9 versus FS2002. I requested that his manual be revised to a FS9 version and a FS2002 version. He replied that writing manuals was his least favorite thing to do and was sorry but he would be unable to do it. He also commented that, as far as weather (using no weather add-on) was concerned, basically the only thing relevant to FS9 was the visiblity settings.

Hi there, these are my favorite visibility settings. Smooth visibility 10% every 10 or even 15 sec's will keep a runway which is visible at the IAP, visible during final approach. Otherwise it may sudden dissapear because of descending into lower visibility. I found this more realistic.http://members.chello.nl/g.kranenbarg/gwkh...ages/fsuipc.jpghttp://members.chello.nl/g.kranenbarg/gwkh...es/BlueSph2.jpgGerrit Kranenbarg
