FSX and FS2004 Will not Load

Featured Replies

After hooking up a Sanyo HD32 TV to my computer, I cannot get either FSX or FS 2004 to load or run. I have a Sapphire HD4650 (I Gb) video card that runs just fine with my older ADI 19" monitor at 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz. The TV is only suppose to have a max resolution of 1366 x 768 @ 60Hz.. I have turned off and even unplugged the 19" monitor and in fact am using the 32" TV right now to type this. It seems to do everything except run the sim programs. I have noticed others are getting messages that their video cards are not capable of running to larger monitors yet they too have much newer and more powerful cards than the message in FSX displays.. Is there a work around to this problem? In another post I was suggested to let FSX rebuild the cfg file. I cannot even get the program running enough to do that. Is the problem that we all seem to have is that we are using a TV as a monitor rather than a dedicated computer monitor? I hate to spend $200-$400 for a 27" computer monitor only to find my video card still cannot run FSX in the larger format. Any al all ideas are welcomed on how to solve this problem. Terry PS: I currently have the 32" monitor/TV hooked to the computer via a HDMI cable. I have also tried the PC (VGA) cable but only get a lot of noise/unreadable screen when I do that. It did work for a few minutes the other day until I did something that must have knocked it out of sync. I have tried to re-set the 32" TV back to all factory resets and still no go with the VGA connection.

I wonder if you are one of those guys with lots of simulators around, like some older ones? If so, have you tried running one of them on the TV? Like maybe FS2002 or MS combat simulator 3? Maybe you need to copy someone else's configuration files if they email them to you.I don't run FS on a TV myself, havn't tried so I don't have the right cfg files to loan you...

I only have FSX and FS 2004. Neither work or load on the TV monitor but run with no problem on the older ADI 19" computer monitor. Terry

Hi Terry, I don't have ATI card, but if you right click on desktop and go to Catalyst Control Center, I think it's called. Find Resolutions, you must change the resolution here from PC to HDTV. If it's true High Definition you should see a few settings ie. 1080P--1920 x 1080. If that's available then select it.If it's not true HD, then you may only have 720P etc. Then make sure it's selected as Primary Display device ( TV? ).REBOOT. If FS still won't start then you may have to delete/rename/backup, the .cfg file (s) and let them rebuild with the new settings, or change manually. For Windows XP: ( C:/Documents and settings/username/Application data/microsoft/FSX..( 'show hidden files and folders', first ) If FS starts, then go in to display settings in FS and change resolution to match desktop.Make sure to change Wide View Aspect from =false to =True. in FS.cfg as well. Ron.

Thanks Ron for writing. Have have done all of those suggested fixes, the first one on changing from PC to HDTV resolution does not seem to work or I am not able to do it correctly. I am starting to think that maybe I should just change video cards to a Nvidia as a lot of threads seem to say it is more FSX friendly. Also The resolution of the TV is only 1366 x 768 x 60 so that cuts off a lot of the top of the screen in FSX. Maybe getting a dedicated computer monitor with the 1080p would also be worth the extra expense. Terry

Just a quick update to this problem. Last night I got the FSX to run on the TV monitor only after it was running on the smaller 19" monitor. (larger 32" slave to the smaller 19") When I would do anything to make the screen go blank like changing screens/airports/aircraft, it would not reload to the TV. It says that the hardware can run the video input but something is still messed up either in the FSX program or in the video card drivers. (shaders). Any idea? Terry

I know you alredy tried this probably. Backup the cfg file. Start up FS with 32" slaved, like you already are able to do. while it is running, delete the cfg file. Then close FS. And start it up again. If don't work restore the original cfg file. Then try doing things in a different order as to when you delete the cfg file in the process. Always keep your present cfg file copied in at least two places to restore if necessary.

Well I tried the suggestion of letting FSX re-build the cfg file after it was up and running and still no good. The FSX program thinks I do not have a good enough video card to run the shaders which are needed to open the program. Might also be a hardware problem as the FSX will not run if I have the TV selected to the "PC" mode. (vga cable) It runs when I use a HDMI connection though. Terry
