August 11, 201114 yr Hi folks, Although I globally changed the Transistion Altitude to 5000ft via the PMDG Options in the CDU, it always defaults to 17000ft when setting up a new flight. I know this has been reported before, and of course it's not a real problem to change this to 5000 each time. However, when descending, I still get the prompt to change my altimeter setting from STD to local QNH when I pass 17000ft, even though 5000 is set for the current flight. The "STD" in the PFD turns yellow within a box, as soon as I descend through 17000ft. And this is a bit annoying. (At the moment, I can't remember if it's the same in climb.) I'm using the 800WL variant with Air Berlin livery. Anyone else observed this behaviour? Thanks Stefan Keller
August 11, 201114 yr you must change your transition altitude during your desent phase via the fmc to the area you are landing which could be different to you departure area you do this by going to youre FMCdecent page there you have a option to input your transition altitude which is correct for the arrival airport area Trevor Smith
August 11, 201114 yr Please, don't confuse transition altitude with transition level. They're on the opposite side of the transition layer. The transition level is the one you're interested in when descending through it. Kind regards, Daniel Verhaal Daniel Verhaal

The transition lever is the one you're interested in when descending through it. Kind regards, Daniel Verhaal I know that, thanks. Anyway, it can't be correct that I'm prompted to calibrate my altimeter at 17000ft, can it? I haven't found any page other than ACT PERF INIT where I can enter the Transition Altitude. There is no Descend page, is there? Stefan Keller

I haven't found any page other than ACT PERF INIT where I can enter the Transition Altitude. There is no Descend page, is there? Well, if the transition level is 17000' you have to set your altimeter to the local setting. You can enter the transition level in the Descent > Forecast page. Daniel Verhaal
August 11, 201114 yr Author Well, if the transition level is 17000' you have to set your altimeter to the local setting. You can enter the transition level in the Descent > Forecast page. Arrrrgh! Thanks! Somehow I didn't think of clicking the DES button. I was always looking for a DES prompt in the INIT REF Index.Solved. THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH! Stefan Keller
September 6, 201114 yr Has anyone officially reported this as a bug? Where they able to reproduce? Was it confirmed by the team in anyway? Just asking before I shoot over a support ticket. To recap: when setting the default transition altitude in the CDU > PMDG SETUP > AIRCRAFT > EQUIPEMENT > Page3 > DEFAULT TRANS ALT to some altitudes even tough it remains set like that in the config file and the CDU, the FMC actually shows a 17000 feet value in the PERF INIT page and the DESCENT FORECAST. Of the value are tested and showed wrong are: 5000, 8000, 11000. With all these the PERF INIT page shows 17000. Strangely 10000 worked fine with the FMS showing 10000 in PERF INIT. If no one confirms this has already been sent in I'll send it in tonight. Eric Bocaneanu ROvACC Director
