Are there any C++ classes available to facilitate Simcopnnect development?

I've not seen any, the SDK and examples seem to be regular C.

That's correct but C++ classes could be used to [put a wrapper round Simconnect. DirectInput API is C but I created a C++ class to facilitate using a joystick.
