I Want to Add more GA Traffic- Which Program?

Featured Replies

Hi All,I'd like to add more GA traffic at some airports. Would I use Traffic Tools to modify the AI files, AFCAD to modify the airport itself (more GA parking?) or some combination of both?Best and Happy New Year,Joel

You might look at Mike Holland's GA Maker for fs2002 to build the flightplans. Otherwise, use AFCAD to add parking to the airport of interest. FS2004 allows AI to non-towered airports. TTools is used to decompile/compile the trafficxxxx.bgl file. You could also use AITM - http://www.molitor-home.de/FS/AITM to help with your GA plans.W. Sieffert

Hi--I have to second the recommendation of Mike Holland's GA Traffic Maker, which I coincidentally discovered myself only a couple of days ago. I spent a good portion of New Year's Day tinkering with, and getting the hang of it. I rapidly came to the conclusion that it's one of the cleverest and best addons that I've ever encountered!!!:-beerchug While it was primarily designed for FS2002, it can be used with FS9 as well. Basically you can pick just about any towered airport, designate the radius from that airport that you want your new flight plans to cover, along with the number of AFCAD parking spaces that you want to devote to the planes in question, and it automatically generates a set of flight plans from that airport, with multiple legs apiece. One of the REALLY cool features of the program is that it will automatically generate registration numbers for the flights, that are consistent with the country of the airport you choose!!!! :( AITM is also advisable, if you want to tweak the plans (change flight levels, substitute aircraft for the default ones that Traffic Maker uses, etc.). I too was compelled to remedy the deficit of GA aircraft in my FS9 AI world; Traffic Maker (along with AITM, Traffic Tools, and AFCAD) is a godsend to those of us who want our GA flights, and want to minimize the time and tedium involved in adding them. Be sure the airports that you want to populate have sufficient parking, of course (that would be where AFCAD comes in). ;)

To get more GA traffic you should wait a month or two.I'm currently on a new project for FS2004 which is called 'GA AI Traffic generator'The programm will automaticly scan all airports you have installed, stock and AFCAD2 made BGL files (This is the part I'm currently programming). For every available GA parking place the program will generate a GA flight based on fators like number of parking spaces, number of runways, runway length, lighting system, controlled or uncontrolled tower and many more (Ideas are welcome). The programm will generate a 'virtual landing fee' for every airport, so a small airport will mostly see 'single engine' planes and large airports with GA parking spots will get only 'business' GA traffic (means small Jets and multi engine props). The plan is to get a 'realistic' GA traffic, which means that in the night time there is only GA traffic at airports with proper ligthing systems and mostly done IFR. I also plan to make seasonal GA files possible, so that in the winter season there is less traffic on the uncontrolled airports than in the summer time, but this feature could only work if the user switch the 'GA Traffic BGL' file at startup of FS9.If you intrested in ALPHA/BETA testing of this upcoming programm, you should contact me here (via PM or send a mail to me)

I used GATM quite a bit with Fs2002, but I was told that the plans it generates are not great for fs2004 - glad to hear its working for you guys - I'm going to download that one again and give it a run. Did you have to manually alter the plans at all? Delete @ signs? If only it supported touch and goes! Now i need some low-polygon GA!best,sg

Markus: Will your program work well with Ultimate Traffic or will there be problems using both?-GeorgeM at 5B6

I think not,I'm also use Ultimate Traffic and try to get both programms to work together. But currently it is to early to say.My program will normaly only use parking space of a special kind, this version will be for GA parking spces only. Maybe there would be another version for Military aircrafts later. If you have time you could join the BETA test team and try it by yourself. Send me an e-mail.

Remember that FS9 can have multiple traffic bgls - one compiled by UT and one with markus' or other GA traffic. As long as the parking specs are properly used, should be no conflicts. I'd love to see a utility which generates random AI GA traffic that could be imported into UT as an airline...just a thought!.sg

Markus, this sounds excellent! I especially like the landing fee idea, it seems to be a good way to separate the business jets from the single props.Really looking forward to your program,VOlker :]

Hi,gave it a run in the afternoon and i have to say that program runs like a charm. I have two questions though: 1) i only created FP for towered airports; does it make sense adding some new tower freqs. via AFCAD at untowered airports? 2) i used the included extended aircraft list but from time to time FS9 bother me with some unsupported features of those old planes :-(. Can you please suggest where can i find some newest GA planes/repaints to add to the list? Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)
