Can I enjoy PMDG with stock FSX?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I'm pretty short on cash at the moment but looking for a commercial sim to supplement my DCS:A10. I can't afford REX/GEX/UTX etc right now, however I have an old copy of FSX laying about. If I buy the PMDG 737 NGX will it be enjoyable with stock FSX? These are my specs... core i5 760gtx 460 1gb6gb ddr3 ram hope you can advise :)

Of course. The NGX is a standalone product so you don't need anything else to go along with it.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm worried about the scenery looking awful without addons. Am used to DCS level scenery. That said, the NGX looks good enough to buy whatever the graphics

Until you can afford REX for the sky and clouds you can always install Pablo Diaz's clouds that were made for FS9 but work in FSX as well, just use the DXT versions for better performance and you can find them here in the Avsim library under this file name hdev2.zip.Also someone remastered his sky textures from FS9 to work in FSX and to be honest, the sunset and sunrise are the best ones I have seen yet and I own REX but use his sunrise/sunset textures. The file is located here. http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file=hdeskytexturesfsx-1.zip&fileId=34817

When you're in the VC of the NGX; 1: you won't want to look outside, 2: you won't have time it is that complex :(

Just get ENB series. That alone is a game changer in my opinion.

i7 950 OC 4ghz - GTX 570 Superclocked - X58 Sabertooth - 1 TB HD - 12gb RAM - Saitek Flight yoke, throttle quadrants, rudder pedals.

Just bought it! Downloading now. Can anybody recommend any simple guides to finetuning FSX? I've seen some but theyre pages upon pages!

venetubo.com/fsx.html run that and replace (after backing up) your FSX.cfg with the modified one

Installing it all now - Very excited...Got a bit bored of the A10c! I notice most of you run super high end machines. Do you think I'll get enjoyable FPS from my rig?

I run a laptop and I run FSX fine. Just don't expect to have every graphics setting on max

Thanks very much for your help all. My final stupid question. I'm trying to locate a manual or something for the NGX on the website, just a PDF one, is it available? I can only find them for the 747 and MD-11!

No. The manual is included with the install and isn't available "free to download"

Ahh I see! Got it. Time to get reading then...Cheers

Have fun. Here's a quick tip, majority of the questions you will ask are in the introduction manual. If you have a question, try searching the PDF's, if nothing answers it, pop into the PMDG forums. I'm on there every day.

Thank you very much, that is greatly appreciated. Are you familiar with DCS-A10? I am wondering how complex this thing is compared to that...Guessing the A10 is far simpler!
