Modified Textures

Featured Replies

If someone modifies a PMDG 737NGX Texture file, does PMDG really have an issue with that person sharing that modified graphic, with another PMDG 737NGX user ? What are re-paints, if they are not modified texture files. ? What really is the difference ? If PMDG will allow the sharing of Modified Texture files, amongst owners of that particular PMDG Product, please can they make it clear, if it is allowed, or "FORBIDDEN" Geoff

f. You may not alter, reverse engineer or otherwise modify any portion of thissoftware except as described in this license. g. You may produce user-made liveries using your original artwork and/or usingtools provided by PMDG for this purpose. You may alter certain files containedin this program as necessary to activate user-created liveries with this software. h. You may redistribute royalty-free, distribution fee-free and at no cost anyuser-created liveries for use with this software. i. You may not decompile, disassemble, extract or otherwise reverse engineer anyof the Software. You shall not have the right to obtain or use any source code forthe Software, nor copy, reproduce, disclose, rent, lease, loan, distribute or usethe Software except as provided above.
They're pretty clear here about what may and may not be altered and shared as freeware or otherwise. I would send a support ticket asking rather or not this is disallowed or not. I can safely say it is against the EULA, though. Calling altered texture files-- "repaints" as you referred to them-- "basically liveries" (I'm paraphrasing here) is stretching the EULA a little far. Though I'm with you here, I don't see the harm.

They do seem to be very strict with this sort of thing. A while back I asked if I could share some edited VC textures of the 744 with my VA, to which I didn't even get a response. Fair play to them though, it's their work.

Copyright is only when someone or organisation tries to profit from someone's or a company's idea/s/ work. "So basically if your altering things for yourself and this would not be passed on to any other 3rd party then it's ok aslong as PMDG are aware that you are doing this. But im sure if anything goes wrong then the support from PMDG will be void! !

I was referring to the eula. I also copy and pasted the section straight from the eula... The one you agreed to when you installed the aircraft. I don't think you quite understand the difference in editing software and editing software *then* sharing it.Thanks for defining the obvious for me though. :(

No response does not strike me as being VERY STRICT !!Seems quite obvious to me WHY you did not get answer Secret.gif Geoff

I don't think you quite understand the difference between "software" and "graphic" tongue.png( Maybe, thats why Lawyers get paid the Big Bucks ) If one want to make a livery, where the Panels are PINK, the EULU indicates that one can do so by editing the existing livery, or making your own from scratch, as long as one does not sell the "derived copyright" work for profit. In any case, a copyright is only as good as the lengths you are prepared to go to to protect it, and the damges you can get from those that are found, in court, to have broken your copyright, only extends to the loss in income, that that infrindged copyright has caused. In this particular case, it could be argued that an available Low Resolution texture would not decrease sales, but would probably increase them. :) As far as PMDG 737NGX textures are concerned, most of us who are not Photoshop Gurus, will have to be patient and see if Mr Scimone or Mr Brown, comes up with some more appropriate Lower Resolution Graphics, for those who find them a more suitable match for their systems,

OK, thanks for that riveting insight.

If what you say is true, than you should have no problems posting re-sized textures of the VC here at Avsim, correct? And the "graphic" in this case, is PMDG's property. With that in mind, my understanding between "software" and "graphic" is moot. They're the same.... Interesting that PMDG has been to quiet. Have you tried a ticket?

No ticket. I will wait for the officail Low Rez Textures - I'm in no hurry, and would not waste Tech Supports time on such matters. In any case, I think "It's better to not wake up sleeping dogs" , even if "their Bark is worst than their Bite." Geoff

Yes I would, I suck at Photoshop. As for posting re-sized textures (for payware aircarft) on Avsim, try searching the Avsim file library for "resized textures" (Not quite the same as suggesting you use Google, but close enough LMAO.gif ) Geoff

Not PMDG's textures, though.

You are not allowed to post mods of the VC textures. We are aware of the requests for lower res textures and we'll handle this ourselves please.
