Yoke v. Joystick

Your work looks very nice, Larry. Impressive how neat and tidy it all is (which I know is often difficult to do during construction).Feeling nostalgic here this evening... in the early 70's I worked at Bryan Aircraft. We built sailplane kits. It was a great education for me, an aspiring designer. I participated in the design and prototyping of the RS-15, HP-17 and highly successful HP-18. While the boss was at the 73 Nationals getting his fanny waxed in the HP-17 (it climbed like an eagle but fell on it's face during cruise) I was back at the "works" doing all the initial layout and design of the HP-18. I left before the prototype was finished (needed to get back to school), but my father and I purchased an RS-15 kit before I headed back home to central California. He started construction of the kit, and we finished it together. We flew it for a few years before selling it (my folks divorced, and I wanted the money from my share to buy my first home). I heard later that the bird had been severly damaged in a ground loop, and subsequently sold. Last I heard it was in the Seattle area.Over the years I built a Skybolt (with a friend) that we recently donated to a museum and a couple of Lancair IVP's (another group project... one that cost us a fortune). Today I co-own a Long-EZE with a business associate. My stake in the deal is purely financial. I'm no longer current, though we fly alot together on business (he refers to me as "auto-pilot". He sits in the front hole reading the paper and napping while "auto-pilot" gets us there. :-) ).Please keep posting pics of your progress. I always look forward to seeing them.More info on the HP designs here: http://www.soaridaho.com/Schreder/

I envy you guys. I wish I had the time and money to build. There is a guy at my airport with an Long-ez, and I see it flying quite a bit. Love it when it is in a turn. Beautiful looking airplane. And Larry, some day when that plane is done, you'll have to fly it out here, or we can both go fly and meet somewhere in Nevada or something.I'd like to see it someday. Your work looks very good. Any estimnate on an end time yet? I know it's a difficult one, as I saw a Lancair IVP take shape over the last couple of years. Hard Work.Regards,Joehttp://aboutpolitics.net/images/bannerav.gif.About Politics.net - FORUMShttp://pub162.ezboard.com/baboutpolitics.Contribute to the Richard Harvey Scholarship Fund.http://www.avsim.com/pages/scholarship.shtml

"I wish I had the time and money to build."There's an old saying in the GA aviation business... if you want to make a million bucks all you have to do is start with three million bucks.

That about sums it up.Heck I was happy with $500 for my FBO Account in my stocking.Regards,Joe

I couldn't agree more! Although I believe the price is probably to steep for some.James

So do I!I love how you can configure the joystick to have resistance at 0 speed using FS Force, like in the real F-16. It makes for a truly realistic experience!James

You say that Airbus come with stick intead of yoke. Please let me know which Airbus. I have all of them, have both stick and yoke, and would like to fly them the way they are flown in real life. Thanks,Leo

I forgot to ask. I have yoke, pedals and stick. For some reason FS started not responding to the yoke on the ground and only turns using the pedals. I checked the assigments and I found nothing for wheels, just for rudder, so I set the stick to move the rudder and while I am on the ground I use the stick to turn, and when I am flying I use the pedals for the rudder. I would like to turn on the ground using the yoke, without this affecting the rudder while flying. Please help me.Thanks,Leo

I believe the A340 uses a stick...
