August 24, 201114 yr Bit of an odd question maybe? I was wondering if there was any way to improve the depth of field in fsx? When I fly over certain areas that have a lot of trees, they blur out of focus when you view from above the plane. Is there any way of changing the settings in the cfg to make a wider area remain in focus? If there are say mountains a few miles away, is there a way of bringing them in to focus along with the terrain around it? Thanks in advance. Andy Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!

Thanks in advance. AndyFsx doesn't simulate depth of field. What it sounds like you're experiencing is a low LOD radius, low texture filtering, our a combination of both. I'm on my cell now so can't offer much more detail than that right now. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 24, 201114 yr Author Thanks, sheepfu, Zach. Would this be a setting that could be modified in the cfg file? Andy Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!
August 24, 201114 yr Thanks, sheepfu, Zach. Would this be a setting that could be modified in the cfg file? AndyYes sir. LOD_RADIUS=4.500000 <------- 4.500000 is the default. I'm running 5.500000. This setting can have quite an impact on frames. Are you using NVIDIA Inspector? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 24, 201114 yr Thanks, sheepfu, Zach. Would this be a setting that could be modified in the cfg file? Andy LOD is under FSX settings /scenery , else in fsx.cfg LOD_RADIUS= change to 4.5 Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
August 24, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys,Yes I am using Nvidia inspestor, I have loaded a fsx profile but I think it could be improved a little.I get AA on the wings and can't seem to get rid of it no matter how high I set the AA. I will try the setting you have mentioned and let you know. Andy Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!

August 24, 201114 yr Author Have a look at this Zach and tell me which one to change?I am not sure what to change. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h56/StratManiac/nvinspector.jpg Thanks Andy Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!
August 24, 201114 yr Hi again, Andy. Make it look like this: Sorry the screen shot is grainy. If you get bad stutters, bring antialiasing setting down to 8xQ. What graphics card are you running, by the way? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 24, 201114 yr Author Hi Zach, I am running the GTX 570. I will try to set the same as yours. My screenshots are too small..........lol Andy Sit at the back! It won't reverse into a mountain!
August 24, 201114 yr Andy. With the 570, I would try higher settings for AA. Play around with it, but remember that transparency settings can hurt frames greatly. Especially with heavy clouds. Antialiasing - Setting-------------------> 8xS [Combined: 1x2 SS + 4x MS]Antialiasing - Transparency----------> Multisampling EnabledAntialiasing - Transparency----------> Supersampling Supersampling If you get stutters, try my original settings. I'm still fidgeting with different settings myself, but I'm starting to find my limits and compromises. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 24, 201114 yr Author Hi Zach, Antialiasing - Setting-------------------> 8xS [Combined: 1x2 SS + 4x MS] I don't see those settings in my nvidia inspector. Mine are multisampled and all sorts I'm lost now.....lolHave you got the nvidia profile for fsx? The one I have does not seem to set things up properly at all.I understand there is a General Nvidia profile? When I changed to 16x on AA I got the jerks......lol... stuttering badly.. August 24, 201114 yr Author 280.26. latest as far as I am aware. Is it worth using enHancer? Although it looks complicated to setup, some say it makes a difference. I don't get it though, it was all perfect, 100 frames in the air and 30 to 50 on the ground at all airports. Then I changed the AA to 16x and the AF to 16x and it don't look as good. Also I changed the other setting to 5.5 and it made no difference.......lol I must need glasses....... :) Andy Sit at the back!
