August 25, 201114 yr Hello. I am running ASE as my weather engine and REX2 as textures. I have two questions: 1) How can I make sure that the clouds that are being drawn are from REX2 and not from FSX or from ASE? 2) When raining I still see too few clouds. I can see the blue sky above me and still lots of rain (coming from where?). How can I increase the amount of clouds when it really should be cloudy and/or rainy? Thanks Antonio H.
August 25, 201114 yr You can play with this section of your fsx.cfg: CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY= I think the max FSX will give you with the in-game sliders is 6 or 8. I have it at 12. 12 gives you realistic overcast conditions but it can be tough on frame rates. Also, if you change this entry, you will have to re-enter the value every time you make changes to the display settings inside fsx. August 25, 201114 yr Hi, ASE has no textures, just a weather program. Clouds in FSX should be 3D and cloud coverage to maximum unless you use Jeff's super slider value.
August 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks for your replies. Yes, I have updated to SP3. I really want to learn all options in ASE. Such a great application! I just edited my fsx.cfg and moved CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY from 8 to 12. It certainly helped. No fps penalties flying my NGX in ENBR (great addon airport by the way). I have fps locked at 30 and it stays there, at 30. The skies look much better now. Dark clouds when raining. I forgot to check whether rain stops when flying above the highest cloud layer. I'll do it next time. Another thing that doesnt have to do with clouds. When overcast weather I would like the terrain to look darker for more realism. It doesnt look fine when it is raining, sky is grey, but the ground is still light like in a shiny summer day. Maybe I am asking for too much... :) Antonio H.
August 25, 201114 yr Hi, 1. If you ever get rain above the clouds, it's because of FSX not ASE and nothing we can do about that! 2. No, that can't be done in FSX, so we all await MS Flight.
August 25, 201114 yr Cloud shadows is one of those big things we'd all love to see in FSX, but the engine will not support it. Visibility patches in the distance, and as seen from the flight levels towards the ground, would have been great too.
August 25, 201114 yr Author Ok. No problem then. I can live with sunny ground in rainy weather... till MS Flight Antonio H.
