August 25, 201114 yr Hi, I just tried to re-install RC4.3 on my machine under Win7x64. I'm getting the registration window, putting in name(s) and registry key --- and nothing happens. The window disappears and there is no further program reaction. What is going wrong? BTW, I just have sent a new registration request in case the other one is outdated. Regards,Axel Regards,Axel
August 25, 201114 yr Make sure when you get the registration key back that you copy the information as its been sent. I would recommend that you paste the information into the lower menu, you should then get a valid registration and RC will run. If this problem persist please post again and JD will help you out with this issue. Bob
August 25, 201114 yr Also, when pasting the code in, be sure no space or other characters is pasted into the code area in the registration code. The cursor should rest immediately after the last character. To avoid this in the e-mail try moving the cursor from right to left to highlight the code before copying. It has to do with the way the fonts are proportionally displayed on the screen and Win can highlight an entire word plus spaces. Spaces are narrow and not easy to see. And don't forget after the successful registration to update FSUIPC from the updated modules link in the pinned topic. It has been modified to get around some Win 7 security problems. Also update makerwys.exe from the Useful Additional Programs link on that forum. Both are newer than the distribution versions in the RC package in the RC package. After installing the updates run the scenery rebuild again as the newer makerwys fixes some scenery priority issues.
August 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys, I did it this way already - and just now again - unfortunately having the same result. EDIT: I just tried the same with the parallel installed FS9 version and again, nothing. For a short moment a "no response" appears, that's it. Regards,Axel Regards,Axel

I should have known the solution. The reason was that I should have started the program to "run as administrator" in order to register properly. Time to go to bed.... Regards,Axeö Regards,Axel
August 26, 201114 yr Now, when you're up set up a shortcut to each rcv4.exe version in each folder and set its properties to run as admin. Name the shortcut rcv4X for the one in the RCv4FSX folder and RCv4FS9 in the RCv4 folder. Install the updated FSUIPCs and makerwys.exe. You need the updated FSUIPCs for Win 7 downloaded from the updated modules link provided. I also suggest making a text for linked to your desktop called FSPaths. In it put on one line the path for FS9 and tthe other for FSX. As an example mine is h:\program files\microsoft games\flight simulator 9. When you do a scenery rebuild you can just copy the correct path for the version you are building from this document and paste in the RC scenery rebuild dialog that asks for your path. To find your path to enter into each version of RC for flt/wxr files you should find browse to My Documents and then for FS9 you'll see the folder Flight Simulator Files and for FSX you will see Flight Simulator X Files Once you have browsed to each of these folders once for each version of RC click OK to set the path. When opening a flight plan browse to these same folders using the one for the version of RC and once you open the plan the path will be remembered the next time. Be sure when building the scenery database that you use the correct path for the version of FS otherwise you'll get the incorrect data. It has been done by some users.

Hello Ron, Thanks for the advice. Regarding MakeRunways I can say that I'm quite involved with this program as I was writing a little tool searching the runways.xml in order to compile FMC datasets as for PMDG and F1's ATR consisting of given surface and minimum length information based on the installed FSX world and not on real world data (I'm not flying on-line). In this context I've had the one or other dialogue with Pete Dowson. For editing the scenery.cfg I'm using Hans Hartmann's FCM2004 - of course linked to the correct path - which makes editing quite convenient even if the tool was written for FS9 - however, it works fine. Nonetheless your hint with the path information will be realised as this is quite useful sometimes. Ah, before I forget: does RC4 really need admin rights for normal running under Win7 and Vista even if no data have to be modified in protected areas? Regards,Axel Regards,Axel
August 26, 201114 yr Ah, before I forget: does RC4 really need admin rights for normal running under Win7 and Vista even if no data have to be modified in protected areas? Regards,Axel Yes, RC at the program level (not user access) needs to be run ad admin to get at the fs folder and execute makerwys during the scenery rebuild and copy files back. It also needs this to access and converse with FSUIPC. The version of the compiler and runtime libraries used I believe does not offer the ability to program this in. It also needs to get at the user documents folder to get to the FS folder under that for flight plans, .wxr., and other files relating to FS stored there. In addition certain security programs see RC accessing FS files and via Windows messaging (to FSUIPC) very frequently and using their heuristics or whatever determine RC is a virus and will block it. That causes in RC FSUIPC time outs or the error messages pinned at the forum top. This probably includes the new Security Essentials installed in updates from Microsoft.
