FSX Hangs after 15 to 20 mins into flight

Featured Replies

HI all. I'm new to the community and desperate for some info. Recently, and I mean all of a sudden, FSX would start hanging or freeze a few minutes into my flight. First I thought it had something to do with any vehicle with a jet. I tried some prop planes and even ran a mission and the same thing happened. What specifically happens is the Sim freezes but I can still here the sound. I am able to TM out to desktop and force close the program. I've tried multiple areas, kmkg..kfll etc. I have updated all my drivers. It happened all of a sudden too. One day I was flying for hours and then suddenly it happened. I did install a couple new planes but they ran fine for a while. I tried uninstalling them and still it happened. Any ideas? It's just really bizarre. Thanks!

I think you are running out of available memory. What is your OS?

I'm running Win 7 32bit. I've tried defrag and still nothing. I didn't really want to uninstall and reinstall again but this is starting to get really annoying. I mean it ran absolutely fine for a LONG time without a problem so I don't know how suddenly it starts doing that. I run other programs that are mem heavy and have absolutely no problem. Usually when I run out of memory I assume the whole system hangs but that's not the case.

I think Mark is right about being out of memory. 32bit versions of Windows do not handle memory very well. That's why many here have installed the 64 bit version of Windows 7. The 64 bit version is usually included on the Windows 7 DVD. If you decide to keep the 32 bit version, you should install the /3GB switch (USERVA=). More info on installing this switch is at the following link - http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html . You might also check your virtual memory setting and make sure it is set to "System Managed Size". Hope this helps. Best regards,Jim

I have the exact same problem. When on the ground everything's fine. But 10-20 minutes airborne suddenly the fsx freeze and "fatar error" window pops up.I am currently running my fsx onAMD Phenom X6 1055T 2.8 Ghz2x2GB DDR3 @1066Sapphire 6950Windows 7 Ultimate 64bitMind you I dont even set the setting to ultra high. Just medium high.I've tried back up and removing the uiautomationcore.dll from the system32 folder but still the fsx freeze and crashed.Btw I was using PMDG 747-8 or 737NGX when those crash happened. Please enlighten me. What's wrong with my fsx?anyway thanks in advance

Perhaps helpful or not...I had freezes like this and lately the last 6 months my computer would simply "shut off" when running my favorite scenery such as Orbx or very complex aircraft after 5-10 minutes. I finally suspected a heating issue-went to my local Best buy and was investigating more cooling stuff. The geek there asked me if I was cosmetically concerned with my computer. I was not. He recommended pulling of the side panels and putting a fan on it. I did so, bought an $8 fan which I have directly blowing on the motherboard, and I have now been happily flying my complex scenery/aircraft with no crashes-a first in a year and a half. Perhaps a cheap solution to try?...

OK Sir I will try that. I am going to open the side panel and add more fan.But the strange thing is everything's okay when I am preparing the flight on the ground.10-20 minutes airborne the FSX always crashes.I am running default scenery and I am currently planning on buying REX 2.0.Anyway thanks for the input.I will try to add more fans now.

Good news now my FSX is running smoothly. At last Whistle.gifI flied the PMDG 747 for a 2 hours flight and everything runs perfectly.I don't know which one actually fixed the fsx because I did several things before the flight.1. I installed the latest audio driver for my motherboard2. I installed the latest directx3. I reinstalled my fsx to a non default windows directory ( mine is local drive/fsx )4. I switched the DX to directx 10 and set the fps to unlimited.Hope this helpslaugh.pngCan't wait to jump in the cockpit againhappy.pngThanks for the help guys
