Weird problem with Nvidia 53.03 driver

Featured Replies

Hey,3 days ago after installing the new nvidia 53.03 driver on my GF4-ti4200 card I my FS9 worked good the first time I tried it. The next I used the sim the screen suddenly got all white and the screen didn't update at all. I installed the newest Flash BIOS to the motherboard to see if that helped, but it didn't help either. And today as I started FS this meesage came up before the Splash screen(see the attached picture).I don't know what to do, the driver install on the graphic card was clean as I deleted my old driver first...Do any of you out there know what I can do, to get on my wings again. My system: Dell Dimension 8100Win XPP4 1500Mhz512 MB RAMLeadtek WinFast 280 LE TD Gforce 4 ti-4200 128MB RAMFS9(PSSA330 and PMDG737 is the only add-ons I have installed)RegardsThomas Kibuuka

Start your computer in Safe Mode, press the F8 key between the first DOS (black) startup screen and before the Windows Screen. Once in Safe Mode, use the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs Menu and delete the NVidia Drivers for Win2KXP. Follow the directions for rebooting. Ensure you have the proper Win2K/XP drivers. I recommend you download them again, just in case you have a corrupted file.Reinstall the drivers and follow the instructions for rebooting. You could also visit the Windows Update site for the drivers MS feels are the latest WHQL drivers and install through the update site. You might also review what version of DirectX is installed, should be 9.0b. It is also available at the Windows Update site.Lastly, check to see what drivers you have for your MOBOs controller chips, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi. You might want to update these drivers also.W. Sieffert

I reinstalled the driver and now FS9 works again, thanks Sieffert. But as the sim started working another problem appeared:When I am working in windows the computer-screen suudenly turns itself off, and then on again after aprox 3 sec. this may happen sometimes and then I am able to work again, and then some windows doesn't get upgraded, most of the time though the computer restarts by itself after the screen has turned itself off and on a couple of times, and after that as I get into windows, this message appears, as an error windows has detected and that it was the reason for automatically restarting...Thomas

I noticed that it says "AGP 8X". I believe that a a 4200 card is 4X max.8X cards are compatible with 4X, but 4X will not run configured at 8X.See what it says in the nvidia control panel. You may have to set it to 4X.

Since you also flashed your BIOS, I am wondering if the BIOS CMOS may have some of the old BIOS and new BIOS in it memory. I would get the manual for your computer and review the settings for your BIOS. Start your computer, enter BIOS, and use the computer manual, check each BIOS entry, and write down any that are different than the manual (doesn't mean differences are a problem).Shut down the computer, disconnect the power plug from the wall, open the case, disconnect the large powersupply connector to your motherboard, find the jumper for the cmos memory reset and place the jumper in the reset mode for the amount of time indicted in the manual. If no jumper is available, remove the battery from the holder. Leave the battery out for 5 minutes or longer. Replace the battery.Restart your computer, enter BIOS, make all the settings. There is usually a setting on the main BIOS page to load the defaults. Start with the defaults and make any necessary changes. You may also have a setting to load performance defaults. I recommend NOT using the performance defaults.Once you have all the settings made, save and exit BIOS. The computer will reboot. See if you still have the graphics adapter problem.W. Sieffert

HI Thomas,I too have noticed this irritating feature after installing the 53.03 drivers, and so I don't think it is a Bios problem, but a driver problem. I get the exact same screen blank for a couple of seconds, then it comes on again. At first I thought I had spyware, a virus or some other system problem, but when I switched drivers the screen blanks stopped. So you are not alone. I'd be interested to know if anyone else gets this.Regards,Rob Young

The AGP control is in a hidden nvidia panel that can be activated by a utility called nvhardpage available at guru3d.com.It adds a registry entry to allow the panel to be displayed and it can be easily reset if it doesn't help. There are other options available as well. I don't use any of them, but they're worth looking at and there is an nvhardpage forum at guru3d.The AGP option is the one called "Activate AGP Options" on the first screen of nvhardpage. You will then have the AGP Options panel selectable in the normal "nvidia properties" dialog. It will be one of the tabs along the left side.I don't know if this is the problem as I cannot recreate it because my rig is 4X mobo and 8X FX5900U running at 4X. But it sure looks odd.I just noticed that the message you got says 8X.0. Dot 0?Could they possibly mean Directx and something got lost in translation? Check your Directx level. It should be 9.0b. Click Start/Run and key in dxdiag.
