January 9, 200422 yr Hi Folks -I've recently started experiencing some texture blur issues. I never used to have these problems. I installed some VFR scenery, I disabled them because I thought they may be the culprit, but they're not. As you'll notice in my screenshot there seems to be a certain area which remains sharp, but surrounding areas become blurred.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/56981.jpgI built a new FS9.cfg, played with various display options, but I haven't been able to fix.Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance. January 9, 200422 yr Author Heres anoter shot. You can see how it blurs a lot quite close to where I am.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/56982.jpg Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
January 9, 200422 yr Hello John, did you try to enable "Extended terrain textures" inSettings > Display?AC5 Alfredo Croci Pulverstrasse 8 P.O.Box 71 3048 Worblaufen Switzerland Tel. +4131 9219231 [email protected]
January 9, 200422 yr Author Hi,Thanks for the reply. Yes I did, but no go. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
January 10, 200422 yr Hi John,Looking at that second shot makes me think that if you've rechecked your fs9 config then the problem might lie with your graphics card settings. I've seen this happen before on my system when my LOD and anisotropic filtering settings were not where I normally set them. Even if you find the settings look correct in the Control Panel, it might be worth uninstalling your video card drivers then re-installing them. Then set the Anistropic filtering and LOD / Mipmap settings through Control Panel to what you usually have them set to. Perhaps somehow your "real" anisotropic filtering settings and LOD settings are not "in sync" with the ones showing in Control Panel. I've seen this happen before as well. The only other thing I can think of is that your terrain texture size within FS9 is too low or your Mip Mapping level set within the FS9 interface is lower than 4.
January 10, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the reply John. The MipMaps are set to 4. I'll go down the path of reinstalling my video drivers and see if that helps. If not, looks like I'll be doing a reinstall.Edit: I did a new install of the Omega drivers - same thing. Not to worry.. thanks for the help. :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
January 10, 200422 yr Hello John,I get that look a lot when in extreme top-down view as in the shot you presented. I'm not sure what causes it, and if I remain in that view for a long time, sometimes the sharper textures load, but other times it's a no-go. I don't worry about it a lot because I don't find any value in that "global" top-down view anyway, but I see how it could be annoying when using the spot-plane view. I've got a Radeon, too (9700 Pro) and I've found that although my textures look dynamite when loaded, they often take a lot longer than I would expect to load. Do you find, when slewing for instance, that it often takes many seconds for the ground beneath your plane to resolve to its highest MIP? I was thinking that maybe it was a data transfer issue, but maybe it's more video card related. It seems like with a 128mb card it ought to be faster.Nice looking plane, btw ;-).thanks,
January 10, 200422 yr Author Hi Bill,Thanks for the reply. I've never noticed this before, it only happened after installing some VFR textures. Its really annoying when you're flying and look out to see blurred textures and water that looks like plastic. I tried all I could to get it working, but alas it won't.I do notice sometimes after slewing it takes a while for the textures to load properly. It depends on the area but, on average, I've timed the 'recovery' of ground detail to take roughly 30-40 secs. Doesn't really concern me unless I'm trying to demonstrate to a friend, and then it's just plain embarrassing ;)MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 2.5.04), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, WinXP Home (SP1), DirectX 9.0b, AGP Aperture = 128MB
January 10, 200422 yr Hi John,You've probably covered this but I am wondering whether these settings (mine) in fs9.cfg will help:(TERRAIN)TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=85.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=20TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=2TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=3Mike
January 10, 200422 yr Author Thanks for that Mike, still no good.Appreciate the replys :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
