September 2, 201114 yr Mine is waving from side to side like a..a..side to side thing. While taxiing! Can that be right? The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
September 2, 201114 yr Are you actually turning when it waves Ron? If so, or your on rough ground, that's correct. If you are going absolutely straight and you aren't touching the rudder pedals then it should stay more or less centred.
September 2, 201114 yr Author No, not turning just taxiing along a taxiway minding my own business. Of all the planes I've got I've never seen this effect. I'm hypnotised by it now! EDIT: Well I'll be damned! I've just tried several aircraft from different developers plus a couple more Carenados and guess what.... If you go a day without learning something it's been a waste. :) Is this how real aircraft behave. I thought that gauge displayed your angle of lean etc. The World is divided into two groups. September 2, 201114 yr I thought that gauge displayed your angle of lean etc. Nope, that gauge shows yaw moment. If it would indicate 'lean' it wouldn't be centered in a turn.On 'normal' e.g. left/right multi engined planes it's important to keep the ball in the (approximate) middle to minimize drag due to yaw.
September 2, 201114 yr Author That's the ball part. What about the needle part, doesn't that indicate roll? The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
September 3, 201114 yr On the older turn and bank indicators it only shows a deflection when banking (roll axis), the newer turn coordinators show a deflection for bank and yaw ( roll and yaw axis). This is because of the way the gyroscope is positioned in the housing, In the t+b the gyro is vertical while in the turn coordinator the gyro is canted. Dave Scalora
