January 12, 200422 yr Where is the best place to keep addon scenery? Should it be in the ADDON scenery folder? Does location REALLY affect performance? Some authors require installation of MESH scenery in the sceneryworldscenery folder and yet others require installation in the addon scenery folder scenery. Does it make a difference where MESH scenery goes?Airbus Al Kaupa Digital Storm purchased 8/17/2011; Win7x64: Asus P8P67 Deluxe; Intel i7 2600K@3,9 GHZ; nVidia GTX 560Ti; 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Dominator; Power Corsair HX 750W; Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD; 300GB WD VelociRaptor; 1TB Seagate.
January 12, 200422 yr I don't know whether it "matters" performance-wise - I can't imagine that it would - but I keep all of the non-stock scenery and mesh that I can in a dedicated directory at my FS drive's root. That way I can share the scenery between, say, FS2002 and 2004.It's much easier to figure out what's what this way... BTW I HATE it when scenery comes with an installer that forces it to go into the FS2004 directory structure.Dave Blevins System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
January 12, 200422 yr Author One area of concern. If you place scenery (*.bgl) and textures (.bmp and others) in your flightsimADDON SCENERYScenery and Texture folders, you don't need to add them to the scenery library list since the ADDON SCENERY folder is already listed. Doing so may cause the cataloging each time you start the flightsim since the scenery generator see two entries. If you add subfolders under your flightsimADDON SCENERY folder, such as:flightsimADDON SCENERYMYSCENERYScenery and Texture folders then you need to add them to the scenery library list.If you add subfolders to flightsimScenery folder, such as:flightsimSceneryMYSCENERYScenery and Texture folders then you need to add them to the scenery library list.If you add subfolders to flightsim that contain scenery, you would also need to add them to the scenery library list.W.
