Steve - Unless you have a specific reason to change it, I would stay with the XP default settings. With the amount of physical RAM you have I doubt you'll see much swap file useage. I have my swap file fixed at 1024x1024 because I have "only" 512MB of physical RAM and process some very large video files. In cases like mine, fixing the swap file size is a plus as it eliminates the fragmentation problem(s). But for 99% of all cases, including FS2004, changing the swap file parameters will make no diffrence at all.Doug Edited for PS: But if you want to change it I'd go with 1024x1024.

The size of the page file can be changed by right clicking on "My Computer" then going to the "Advanced" tab then clicking on the "Settings" button in the Performance section (at the top). This brings you to the Performance Options. Click on the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" where it says "Virtual Memory" (at the bottom):)Once there, you can change the page file size by selecting the "Custom" radio button and changing the values (in MB). Don't forget to select the correct drive at the top:)

I had been experiencing frequent CTD's with two common themes, those being "Out of memory" and what I perceived as a scenery conflict that has been discussed at length in this forum. The scenery CTD's were not as frequent as the out of memory occurences, so I tackled the memory problem first. My OEM Pavilion came with XP Home which had the basic 512MB of mem. I decided to add another 256 to try and minimize the stutters, understanding that my lowly 1.4 Athlon wasn't helping the matter. Added a 9600 PRO 128 to improve graphics. Big improvement from my 9000 PRO. Stutters slightly improved. As I added new scenery & texture files, on flights around an hour in duration, I was getting CTD's stating "Out of memory". Odd I thought as I had just added additional memory but evidently not enough to prevent the memory CTD. I consulted my IT manager at work and presented the scenario to him. He suggested increasing the size of my page file from what Windows was recommending at 1150MB max, to 1920MB for both min & max. Did that as I had nothing to lose, and since that change, I have not had a memory CTD on any flight duration, under or over any hour. It worked for me.Problem two. Scenery CTD's. I principally fly in the northeast and do a lot of commutes between KBOS and KORH, to KAVP (Scranton, PA). I had the FS Genesis beta landclass for FS2002 installed in FS9 and had no problem with the summer and early fall season. With late fall and winter, the CTD's started just about the NY, PA border. I might mention that I was also using the FS Genesis mesh files for the Adirondack, White & Green Mountains for the northeast on top of Ed Dennys mesh files for those states as well. I realize this was probably not a good thing to do. As an experiment, I removed the landclass & mesh files of FS Genesis, and my CTD's have vanished. Not sure why. Just stating what I did and what the results were for my set up. YMMV.

Hello,Thanks
