FU2 'Sold out' version compatible with FU3?

Featured Replies

I believe it does. The incorporation of the FU 2 (San Francisco area) relies on an option that's built into the FU 3 install routine. When you say "yes" to SanFran the installer prompts you to insert the FU 2 CD that contains the maps. Thus, as long as the maps are available I don't see how "Sold Out" could make any difference unless the files are packaged / bundled in way that's incompatible with FU3's install routine. In case you run into trouble it should still be possible to copy the SanFran maps manually.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm in the process of reinstalling FU3 because I had a problem with the challenges. It seems with one of the updates from the file library, the position of the airport changes, so when I land there it fails to complete as the waypoint is no longer where it should be. I'm going to try a 'vanilla' install just to check, although I wouldn't mind a list of 'must-have' addons. I remember the AI upgrade is definitely worth it. Any more that I should be using (apart from the official patch of course)?

Hi. I can confirm it works fine. When I installed my FU3 I added, at the prompt, the SanFran inner region from my Sold Out copy of FU2. Once it's done the complete installation is a discrete package and doesn't need any CD in the drive. Concerning enhancements... If you don't have any home-made inner airports, Seattle '08 is a great addition. I only occasionally use an installation that incorporates it as in my preferred installation I have fictitious airports in places that are no longer flat with the more detailed '08 terrain. There are also some very nice planes and repaints you may wish to try if you haven't already seen them. My favourites: Virgin & Lufthansa B747 (best exterior and most complex model), Dash-8 (lovely sound & great 2d panel), Vigilant (best all round? with a superb VC), B1900D (my current favourite), UN & Pluna repaints for the Beechjet. All beautiful models and much, much better than the stock aircraft. See the pinned topic at the top of this FU3 forum, 'Advanced library listings'. It's out of date since the hacking episode but will give you a good idea of what you may want to try. The annotated and expanded flt.cfg file is also a must-have. Beautiful skies... If you copy your clean Flight3 folder to another location you will always have a backup clean installation to revert to should anything go irretreivably wrong. I have a couple of different installations salted away in zip files for recovery, experiment and for development. Regards,D

Jim, If you are interested in my Seattle 2006 and SanFran 2006 region upgrades, then please let me know. I can easily upload them to my Mediafire account, and then provide a link in this thread. If you would like to know what upgrades these two packages include, then send me a PM.

If you could upload your region updates that would be great, thanks Chris! Just reinstalling FU3 now.

OK, I should be able to upload them this evening.

Got them, thanks again Chris. EDIT: I seem to not be able to do challenges now, they are greyed out? Something in the advanced configuration file is causing it, as my old flt3.cfg lets me play the challenges on my new install. Wierd. EDIT2: Duuh, I forgot to change the region back to Seattle in the 'Airport' section.
