October 7, 201114 yr Considering that persons flying FSX superbly with no tweaking of the cfg are very much in the minority, I would say that its definately not a myth and for the most a necessity.
October 7, 201114 yr Author I must admit in the 3 years of me playing FSX on my Q9650 I've never tweaked the CFG mainly because I haven't a clue what I'm doing! But it's been running ok and even runs the 737 NGX, granted that's with no extreme add ons apart from Terrain X and the scenery turned down. But when I get my new PC next week I'll start experimenting with the CFG if it doesn't run how I want. And this site holds a mine of information, glad I found it!
