October 5, 201114 yr Hi guys, I'm new to ASE. From reading other posts I now have a little dilemma...: "Should i enabled the wind smoothing option in fuispc?" David
October 5, 201114 yr Author ...Not that I have any problems with your software, actually I'm very pleased with it! My fsx wind (shift + z) macthes up perfectly with what ASE is reporting, and ASE's reports are perfectly macthing metar reports from the web + and - magnetic wind variations. The only inconsistency regarding wind direction was with the pmdg 737 indications on the HSI. Is there a way I can tweak that? My question is if the fuispc option may have some other hidden benefits I'm not aware of..... Thanks again... David
October 5, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hello David, If you have FSUIPC (registered) then yes enabling that wind smoothing is recommended for even further wind smoothing beyond that included in ASE itself... it also gives you some options to fine tune this to your liking. Wind direction inconsistencies on the HSI are indicative of the PMDG using the data FSX is reporting, but in some cases is actually wrong when in DWC mode (where we are constantly forcing the correct direction to circumvent FSX's directional interpolation problem). If you have not yet tried B649 (beta, available via pinned topic in this forum), we suggest trying it as the DWC write speed has been increased, and it may help reduce these inconsistencies. October 5, 201114 yr Author Thank you for the support Damian! I will try the beta now and let you know... The same happens with the RXP gns with wind direction... Anyway back to testing, thanks again. David
October 5, 201114 yr Author It looks correct now but.... if @ 9000 ft I'm getting a reading of 115@06knots for the wind aloft, is that a magnetic or true value? In fsx (shift + z) I'm getting 098, which is magnetic, right? Therfore a variance of 17 degrees. The RXP gns is also showing me 098 wind direction. Should it also show a magnetic value? As you can read I'm a little confused here,,, but it definetely looks better with the beta update, huge difference, thanks for pointing it out to me, I didn't even notice it. David
October 5, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hi David, All weather reports in AS are in TRUE, as per actual METAR code. Shift-Z shows in Magnetic. In-flight instrumentation also is in Magnetic, as is voice FS ATIS. Essentially anything but actual "written" report data is in magnetic. The main reason for the difference is that for flight planning purposes you must have a consistent reference (true north), where the relative magnetic heading will vary for each segment/waypoint depending on the local magnetic variation. Thus each waypoint has magnetic variation accounted for independent of other waypoints. You can see the way this works in the Briefing screen where the different waypoint details are shown (when a flight plan is loaded) including the True bearing, wind, TAS, magvar, and the end-result "heading to fly". October 5, 201114 yr Author Thank you for the lesson Damian, live and learn! That makes me very happy because it means that ASE is working correctly. Great program and support! David
October 5, 201114 yr Commercial Member That makes me very happy because it means that ASE is working correctly. You and I both! :) Thanks for the words! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
