January 20, 200422 yr Hi,Any help on this appreciated:I first noticed a problem flying the default 737 over the Alps on an IFR flight to Nice. I get to a certain point and then FS2004 crashes to a black screen and I need to restart the program. Going back to a previous save, I retry and the same thing happens, again and again, at basically the same geographical position. The final time, desperate, I decide to slew through it, and it works - no crash.Having used FS2004 since October last year without a problem, I now get this problem all the time! Flying in Alaska it happens a few miles south of McGrath enroute to Anchorage, again at the same point. I don't want to have to rely on saving all the time and slewing through these buggy areas!I have no add on scenery in these areas. I have used all seasons, all weathers, real weather, etc and it still happens; different aircraft, different altitudes. No good.512Mb RAMP4 2.6ATI Radion Mobile 9600 128Mb - all updated drivers.Help!Matt
January 20, 200422 yr Do a thread search on "CTD".... There seems to be some consistent problems with blending of snow textures in the fall/winter/spring seasons with landclass in certain areas, most of which (if not all) can be resolved by applying a couple of fixes posted here in the forums. The areas you mention are quite prone to the problem according to the reports that have been made on the issue...-John
January 20, 200422 yr edit: (ACK! Posted at the same time as the above advice!)I would strongly recommend performing a search on this forum for "Seasonal CTD".There have been *considerable* numbers of threads on this topic thusfar. There are some fixes being tossed around, but it would seem that the problem is not an easy one. The fixes work for some, but not for all.Again - search on "Seasonal CTD" and take a look...-Greg
January 20, 200422 yr Having read through a huge tranche of CTD threads I'd like to raise another issue which I haven't yet seen mentioned. My CTD only happens when I have the GPS module in view.My initial thoughts were that this was a problem caused by my FSSC and AFCAD scenery but having removed it all I get the same result. I'm sitting on the rainway at CYEV and as soon as I switch on my GPS, CTD. I have tried the terrain.cfg fix to no avail and I don't see the point in going down the other, often futile routes so many have reported, especially when I don't see anyone else reporting a problem with the GPS.Grateful for any thoughts on this.-Matt
January 21, 200422 yr Hello Matt, the same thing happened to me...I do mainly flights in the region Switzerland-Northern Italy.Geneve-Milano, Basel-Venice, Basel-Zuerich, Torino-Geneve.Then I made a flight Geneve-Basel, and every time, in the very same spot CTD's. No matter how you set the season or time.I have the Lago-Pignot scenery. If you get a error message, look at it. The problem is caused by the ATC.dll.My solution: I do other flights, there are a 1000 to choose from!AC5Mainboard ASUS P4 C - 800 Deluxe Bios 1008On- Board LAN 1 Gbit, Firewire, Sound, USB 2.0Pentium 4 C - 800 3.0 Ghz2048 MB RAM Corsair XMS (4 x 512MB DDR, 400MHz, CL2)1 HDD Samsung 40 GB ( C: )1 Raid Controller Promise Fast Track SX 4000 256 MB on board2 x HDD Samsung 120 GB (RAID 1) (D: )DVD-R Writer Pioneer DVDR 105 4 / 16FloppyGraphics card Nvidia GF FX 5900 Ultra 256 MB Drivers 53.03Monitor 21" QuatoGraphics Color Station 21Printer Canon S 9000ADSL Router Zyxel Prestige 642-RWindows XP Professional English SP 1a Alfredo Croci Pulverstrasse 8 P.O.Box 71 3048 Worblaufen Switzerland Tel. +4131 9219231 [email protected]
January 21, 200422 yr Thanks - I'll keep an eye on it. As you say, plenty of place to fly in the world! If I hear anything, I'll post on this thread.-Matt
January 21, 200422 yr One fix mentioned elsewhere worked for me. go into display and change texture size from massive to the next smaller size..don't remember its designation. I'm at work, and they don't like me to sim at work..:-)Sherm
