October 11, 201114 yr Could anyone help me edit an FS9 .fx file? I have the Effects SDK and documents and have browsed the internet a while looking for the specific answers I need, but I am no expert in this and don't want to mess up the file by making invalid changes.The files are audio effects - replacement touchdown effects. They sound good but I would really like to increase the distance from which they can be heard. The elements that the SDK doc refers to as controlling this (Radius= ) are not in the fx file, and I don't know whether the radius is a line that should go into audio effect - maybe it's just for visuals??There are no [Controller] paragraphs in the file - do I need to add one to have the sounds audible over a wider area? I read in FS2004 Effects.doc that, for the controller "Type=3 is the Distance controller. This option works with the [Distance] parameter, which sets the distance at which this effect becomes visible or audible". So I am assuming 'yes'??Is there a way also to increase the volume of the sound effect via the .fx file parameters? (I have already modified the sound files themselves, to better effect). I would also like to slightly prolong the effects - but again am unsure what figures I need to change, presumably the 'Lifetime' values, but which?I am not looking to have the whole airports blasted away by touchdown sounds of course, but I think that some tweaking would make things more 'immersive', especially the distance from which the effects are audible, which is way too small at the moment.Many thanks for any advice. I post the .fx file below. (They come form 'Airport Chat Developer Team' - freeware files and I gather there is no problem my editing them for my private use).Thanks,Martin--------------------[Library Effect]Lifetime=5Version=1.00Display Name=Airport Chat Developer TeamSound=6Sound Param=4[Emitter.0]Lifetime=0.50, 0.75Delay=0.00, 0.00Bounce=0.00Rate=80.00, 100.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=-1.00, 1.00Y Particle Velocity=2.00, 5.00Z Particle Velocity=-2.00, 2.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 2360.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00[Particle.0]Lifetime=2.00, 3.00Type=19X Scale=1.50, 2.00Y Scale=1.50, 2.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.70, 0.70Y Scale Rate=0.70, 0.70Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=-1.00, -0.98Color Rate=0.75, 0.90X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Fade In=0.00, 0.01Fade Out=0.50, 0.50Rotation=-160.00, 160.00Shade=1Face=1, 1, 1[ParticleAttributes.0]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_1.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=197, 202, 205, 100Color End=227, 224, 228, 0Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00TempK=107.00TempRate=0.00uv1=0.00, 0.50uv2=0.50, 1.00X Scale Goal=10.00Y Scale Goal=10.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00[Emitter.1]Lifetime=0.10, 0.25Delay=0.00, 0.00Bounce=0.00Rate=80.00, 100.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=-1.00, 1.00Y Particle Velocity=1.00, 5.00Z Particle Velocity=-2.00, 2.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00[Particle.1]Lifetime=2.00, 4.00Type=19X Scale=1.50, 2.00Y Scale=1.50, 2.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.50, 0.50Y Scale Rate=0.50, 0.50Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=-1.00, -0.98Color Rate=0.75, 0.95X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Fade In=0.00, 0.01Fade Out=0.50, 0.50Rotation=-110.00, 110.00Shade=1Face=1, 1, 1[ParticleAttributes.1]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_1.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=129, 134, 139, 100Color End=129, 134, 139, 0Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00TempK=107.00TempRate=0.01uv1=0.00, 0.50uv2=0.50, 1.00X Scale Goal=10.00Y Scale Goal=10.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00[Emitter.2]Lifetime=0.50, 0.50Delay=0.00, 0.00Bounce=0.00Rate=1.00, 1.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.25, 0.25Z Offset=0.00, 0.00[Particle.2]Lifetime=60.00, 60.00Type=21X Scale=1.00, 1.00Y Scale=1.00, 1.00Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Y Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00Color Rate=0.00, 0.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Fade In=0.01, 0.01Fade Out=0.50, 0.50Ground Normal=1Face=0, 0, 0[ParticleAttributes.2]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_wake_3.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=0, 0, 0, 255Color End=0, 0, 0, 0Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00uv1=0.00, 0.00uv2=1.00, 1.00X Scale Goal=0.00Y Scale Goal=0.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=30.00Extrude Pitch Max=10.00Extrude Heading Max=10.00[Emitter.3]Lifetime=0.20, 0.40Delay=0.00, 0.00Bounce=0.00Rate=210.00, 210.00X Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Y Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Emitter Velocity=0.00, 0.00Drag=0.00, 0.00X Particle Velocity=-1.00, 1.00Y Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00Z Particle Velocity=0.00, 0.00X Rotation=0.00, 0.00Y Rotation=0.00, 0.00Z Rotation=0.00, 1660.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00[Particle.3]Lifetime=0.25, 1.65Type=19X Scale=2.00, 2.50Y Scale=2.00, 2.50Z Scale=0.00, 0.00X Scale Rate=1.00, 1.00Y Scale Rate=1.00, 1.00Z Scale Rate=0.00, 0.00Drag=-1.00, 0.00Color Rate=0.01, 1.00X Offset=0.00, 0.00Y Offset=0.00, 0.00Z Offset=0.00, 0.00Fade In=0.20, 0.20Fade Out=0.60, 0.60Rotation=-500.00, -200.00Shade=1Face=1, 1, 1[ParticleAttributes.3]Blend Mode=1Texture=fx_5.bmpBounce=0.00Color Start=255, 255, 255, 80Color End=255, 255, 255, 255Jitter Distance=0.00Jitter Time=0.00TempK=107.00TempRate=0.30uv1=0.00, 0.50uv2=0.50, 1.00X Scale Goal=0.00Y Scale Goal=0.00Z Scale Goal=0.00Extrude Length=0.00Extrude Pitch Max=0.00Extrude Heading Max=0.00 Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 14, 201114 yr Author Must be some guru out there who can answer this? M. :-) Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 19, 201114 yr Author Maybe I need to post this to a more specialised forum? Perhaps the effects gurus amongst you (there must be some, surely?!) don't hang out in this one much! Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 19, 201114 yr Hi, I don't think you can use a controller file with effects attached to aircraft (only those attached to scenery), so you cannot specify a radius value. Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
October 20, 201114 yr Author Thank you for the replies. I had Googled "FS9 effects edit" or such combinations, but never found "FXEditor", so thanks very much for the link. M Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 23, 201114 yr Author At the moment this tool is basically a text editor (still in development) so I still have no idea really what I need to alter to make the desired changes .. if anyone can advise?? Thank you, Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
October 23, 201114 yr I did not mean FXEditor, but the special effects forum... I am sure there is somebody who can help you
October 24, 201114 yr Author Actually, I posted recently to the FXEditor forum and had some help there. Will keep trying, but it may not be possible to do what I was thinking, it seems. Thanks again.Martin Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)

October 27, 201114 yr I'll reprint what I posted in the thread above:Assuming this is for FS9 (since I would assume you would know about the soundai folder in FSX), your choices are very limited.First, crank up the Environment slider in the Sound settings, since this is the one that will affect the loudness of AI sounds, as I remember. If already at 100%, lower the other sliders and turn up your master volume control.1. If you use Windows XP, you can buy FSHotSFX and get takeoff, touchdown, and reverse sounds in your AI. Not compatible with Vista or Win7, and try it before you buy it to make sure it works for you.2. Use a sound based effects file, as you are trying. I have created a complete AI sound package (piston, turboprop, and jets) that gives touchdown and reverse sounds (no takeoff sounds are possible, AFAIK).It's available here:http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htmIt's AI File Ten. While part of a package, with proper aircraft.cfg file edits it can work for any plane. Details of that process in the included text files. No, you don't have control of the volume or the range, but if you crank up the sound slider it sounds pretty good.Hope this helps, Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
October 30, 201114 yr Author I'll stick to the FSDeveloper forum for this, rather than run two threads....M. Martin Stebbing, EGLF (UK)
