Partial scenery corruption or what?

Featured Replies

I was installing some files into an aircraft folder when suddenly everything froze. Now when I start up FS in the opening screen there is just blue sky. If I choose an aircraft or use the default the blue sky remains. No aircraft. The only graphic I see is the panel of the default aircraft but no scenery through the cockpit windows. Using the S key also gives nothing more than a blue screen with the text (as usual) in the upper right hand corner. Also, everytime I shut down the FS and return, all of the scenery sliders are at "0" no matter where they were set before. I've attached some pics to illustrate what I'm seeing.Has anyone had this problem in the past and if so how was it solved? Hopefully a re-install won't be necessary. I'd sure appreciate any help or suggestions on this since My FS is not useable this way. Which files did you put into the aircraft file, and what happens if you remove these files?

Christiaan..............They were texture files for specific aircraft (only 3) and I removed them and the specific aircraft but that did not change the situation. Jack

Maybe you will get more replies if you say which textures they are and which aircraft file you put them in.

Christiaan...............Well, I would but I've had the person who built my system over and after 3 hours determined that there is a corrupted file somewhere within the scenery area and we couldn't find it. As a result I'm just going to delete and re-install. Ugh! Jack

for the future, as a rule of thumb: never install anything that FSX loads on startup while FSX is running (which is what I gather for your post). Always shut down FSX, do whatever you have to do, then reopen FSX. For sceneries that aren't in the scenery library this isn't so much a problem because FSX doesn't load them on startup, but all other things I'd recommnd meddling with when FSX is open.

Thralni..........FSX was not running when I was installing the texture files. Ir was only after I had installed the files and started FSX to check things out that I discovered something had gone wrong. I never add anything to FSX while it is running. I've had quite a few very experienced FS folk trying to help me figure this out but we've all come to a brick wall. Hate to say it but "it's just one of those things". Hmmm! That might make a nice song title. I've got to keep a sense of humor about this. Jack
