Standard Mode performance B651

Featured Replies

In previous thread I reported some of the problems I was having in tests of the Beta B651 using DWC mode. I also am communicating directly with Damian thru trouble ticket. However, out of frustration I decided to try STANDARD option and so far I am pleased to report EXCELLENT performance in all phases of flight and I was using PMDG NGX. I set Ground suppression / 100nm suppression / suppression below 10,000ft and force destination weather. I also tweaked the destination metar to include heavy CB. In the past the metar would not keep the CB, instead changing it to cumulus but this time it held perfectly within ASE and greeted me on arrival at destination. There were no unscheduled wx updates while on the ground at departure airport and the few times I noticed during enroute did not cause frame rate stutters as they had in the past. Enroute weather was spot on all the way and correct runways were being assigned by ATC along the way to AI traffic and checking this with ASE for those airports confirmed correct surface wx in FSX. I was assigned correct runway based on my OFFLINE wx setting for the destination and there were NO wx updates below 10,000. Precipitation and CB's were as I had set them up. The ceiling was 200 feet higher however than what was showing in ASE. Only thing I noticed was that once I had parked the aircraft and shut down, I began to receive weather updates even though I had "ground" suppression selected. The other strange phenomenon was that when I studied the log file I could not find a single wx update to my destination airport! There were constant updates to airports along the route and all around but no mention of my destination airport anywhere in the log! When time permits I will try another flight under different conditions but leaving my options settings the same. Hopefully I can confirm similar success using this options mode until Damian can adjust the DWC.

Hi Craig, One thing to keep in mind, is that even though writes are "suppressed" they must still be updated otherwise FS will discard the cloud information and clear your skies (after about 5-10 minutes) consistently. When suppressed, the old "locked" wx information is constantly sent instead of new information until out of range. This differs from ceiling suppression which eliminates all updates below the altitude to prevent any updates for performance reasons (which doesn't apply to most users). Standard depiction does offer some benefits as you discuss.... The problems being potential stutters during updates and improper aloft wind directions at times per FSX aloft issues.

This is normal, up to approximately 250ft of potential deviation from report is by design.

Airports and stations are two different things. We never update airports, only stations. There are airports, physical weather stations (per FSX station database), download data stations

What am I adjusting in the DWC? IIRC, most if not all issues you have brought up have been misunderstandings, including DWC mode control of all global/ambient conditions, station types, suppression and so forth. I see one thing yet unconfirmed with your baro pressure, in which we need some kind of documented screenshot or report before we can confirm this an issue, since all existing data indicates correct operation. Thanks for those details! Something we've learned from your feedback and much of what we see every day in our support queue: The technical details, options and potential methods of operation of AS are confusing, as well as how different FSX and FS9 peculiarities affect all this. As we strive to make things more high-fidelity and realistic we also add complexity. With complexity comes a need for education and knowledge, with more intuitive operation for all kinds of users with all kinds of experience levels. Part of this means better online resources (as we have already begun introducing with the new support center), another part is better UI flow and in-program information.... and we can take advantage of wizards, better documentation, and other elements to make it all easier for our customers (and us!). We'll be making those goals of ours as we move forward with new development. Thanks Craig, and thanks everyone for your understanding of our challenges and your patience as we work to further improve things in every way that we can.
