November 2, 201114 yr HiIs there a 'switch' in an ai cfg file to detect collisions with the user aircraft?I fly the 'default' C172 and it detects contact with some ai and with some others it doesn't. For example TFS aircraft are all detected - but the HTAI C130 and Shorts 360 (the only HTAI tested), are not. Perhaps the detection is 'hard-coded' by the designer? (I must say - I take my 'flying' seriously and don't go round 'crashing' into everything - but I once 'flew' straight through an HTAI aircraft which prompted some testing with others...........)Any thoughts on this please?CheersJont
November 2, 201114 yr I believe that FS9 mdls (aircraft or ground) have invisible "crashboxes" that enclose the model. They are much simpler in geometry. If crash detection is set to "on", the sim tests to see if your aircraft intersects that "box" and if so, crash is detected. Since the "crashbox" isn't the exact shape as the model, crash could be detected when it's just a tight situation (like on the ramp).I believe it is possible to delete the "crashbox" when the model is saved into the mdl by makemdl. I don't think once it is in mdl format you can re-create the "crashbox".scott s..
November 4, 201114 yr Author Hi ScottMany thanks for your reply - yes - thought it was hard-coded.CheersJont
November 4, 201114 yr I turned "Crash detection" OFF years ago to avoid having an AI aircraft ruin an entire flight. Now, if an AI flies right through me when I'm on final, I just laugh it off and continue on to the runway. For me, having "Crash detection" turned ON just isn't worth the frustration.Regards,JerryH
