November 13, 201114 yr I was doing a cargo flight from SBGL up to KIAH the other day, and handed the controls to "Otto" so I could eat. When I returned, I noticed that he had been looping around the VOR TFE (Near Tefe, Brazil) numerous times. The GPS was showing the flight plan as continuing, and when I took over controls, switched from NAV to GPS and switched the Autopilot from HDG to NAV, it continued on fine. When I switched controls back to Otto, he circled the aircraft back to go to TFE and continued his looping around TFE.
November 13, 201114 yr Did you have the holding options on? Was the VOR near the airport? Did you not get a waypoint credit? Did you miss an altitude crossing restriction about 40 nm out from your destination. That will cause RC to issue you delay vectors until you are at or below the crossing restriction. Please see the crossing restriction items in the RC manual. Also check out the holding restrictions when using Otto. Also note that if not in the US the transition levels may not be at 18,000 fett and using the 'B' key to set altimeter will not function correctly. If commanded to a flight level be sure you use standard pressure (29.92 in or 1013 mb). If commanded to an altitude in feet you must use local pressure (QNH) as announced by ATC.It is recommended in the immediate departure and approach areas you take control from Otto. You really should keep the comms in those areas so you do not miss an RC ATC instruction. Otto will not control the aircraft and hand you back the controls anyway when you get close.Look at the status window to see what your next waypoint is and if it pops off the RC window status area as you cross it. If youu want to proceed to the next checkpoint in this situation, other than missing a crossing restriction, in the RC extended meny (9) by default you'll find a direct-to option.Be aware that may of the flexibility options are not functional when using Otto as the pilot flying.
January 3, 201214 yr Author Ron,Well, TFE was approximately 1700 nm from SBGL and I had already received comms from ATC to fly as filed (I had hit a few previous waypoints before hand) and I was already at my cruise altitude (this was a while back ago, so I can't remember what my FL was set at).
