November 25, 201114 yr Installed a repaint of subject AC, by Don McManus. Noticed a couple of questionable areas. I have attached two pics highlighting those areas. Have circled them in red. I looking at other paints of the Cal Classic DC-7B, I do not see any similarities or reference to these circled areas. I have e-mailed Don but have not heard from him. Just wondering what your take on these areas are. On both sides of the fuselage. There appears to be a small window by the logo Eastern letter "S". Don't see it on any other DC-7B's. Don't know what the area below the cockpit windows would signify.Thx
November 25, 201114 yr Here is a link to a page with a pic that looks like it has the small window- http://travelforairc...mberlite-pipes/A search at airliners.net for "Eastern DC-7B" will show a few more including an old black and white photo that has something similar to the other item. Both are simply painted on the texture and would not be too hard to fix.regards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
November 26, 201114 yr Author Thanks Joe for the info. I did "repair" the mentioned areas using GIMP 2.6, but after saving the file to the texture folder, upon loading the AC, both the fuselage bmp's came out extremely blurry. Not sure why. Any ideas?Chris
November 26, 201114 yr What happens if you zoom in real close, then back off?Are you converting the files with DXTBmp?If so, make sure there is no check in the box to "save with mipmaps".regards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
November 26, 201114 yr Author Yes, I did use Martins DXTbmp but not sure about "save with mipmaps". Will review that. From your links, I did looked closely at the pics of various DC-7B's and indeed there appears to be a small window in the upper part of the fuselage. Still can't figure out the small grey area in the blue stripe.ThxChris
November 26, 201114 yr Author OK Joe, that did it! I had that boxed "ticked". I un-tlicked it, painted over the grey area and all textures loaded normally. GREAT! I'm just a green novice when it comes to painting, but I'm learning bit by bit. I've been playing with trying to paint a 747 with the hockey stick theme but can't figure out how to make the windows transparent when painting a stripe over them. I suspect it has something to do with "layers" but haven't had any success yet! Having fun though. Thanks for your help and suggestions.Chris
