November 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member Is it me, or cloud shadows on the ground are acting weird. They are ok in level flight, but when I do a barrel roll clouds shadows are moving on the terrain. When I go back to the level flight they move back to their position. Same thing with moving my head with TrackIR, but it's less noticeable.Does anybody has this issue too? To take a screenshot, while in sim, press Shift+Space. It saves a screenshot in the root x plane folder.
November 26, 201114 yr Author Commercial Member Take a look at cloud shadow here:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/202612/forums/FA-22A_1.jpg And here:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/202612/forums/FA-22A_2.jpgOn the second screenshot cloud shadow should be on the right side of the HUD. On the first screen shadow is at the lake, on second it moved very far from the lake. When I leveled after barrel roll shadow moved back to it's position at the lake. Position of the shadow is not fixed to the ground but relative to the screen. It's clearly wrong.Shadow settings are global (medium), HDR off. Michał Puto A2A Simulations | Blockhouse-C | Twitter
November 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member ok, I see what you're talking about now.It could be that shadows don't recognise inverted flight. Send Laminar a brief description and it will get looked into. Ben Supnik has already stated he will heavily optimize the shadows and HDR for a future update. If you send him this, it might get added in that update.Nice catch, by the way.
November 26, 201114 yr I've noticed weirdness with the cloud shadows as well. When I look at an external view of the plane, I've noticed that cloud shadows change position depending on where I position the camera. For example, if I'm looking forward and see a cloud shadow in the distance and then rotate the camera up, the cloud shadow will move as if to stay in view. It's very odd. Some screenshots to show what I'm talking about. Notice the lighting changes on the ground. The only thing I did was rotate the camera up between screenshots:Shadow settings are "Global (Low)".
