November 29, 201114 yr HiRecently built a new system which I thought would run FSX like a dream which it does...kind of. I was expecting a bit more from it to be honest. Here's my dilema:Fresh installation of FSX Deluxe with both service packs installed...(no addons, scenery etc)Got the PMDG 737NGX, installed it and followed the Introduction PDF that came with it. I changed my scenery/weather etc. settings as per the PDF and also used the tool by ******* Altuve www.venetubo.com/fsx.html and made the necessary tweaks based on my hardware.I start up FSX using FPS limiter at 30FPS and start a flight. Seems OK, fairly smooth but every now and again the frame rate drops to something like 10FPS which makes everything jerk for a split second. I decide to start up with FPS limiter not running to see how high the FPS is sitting with unlimited framerate selected. It runs between 30-50FPS.Correct me if i'm wrong but given the hardware i'm running (listed below) and from what I've seen on other people YouTube videos, should I not be getting better than this?Any opinions would be greatly appreciated,ThanksGarry CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) overclocked to 4.90Ghz @ 1.52 Volts (76C under load) Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked (1536Mb GDDR5 Memory, 797Mhz GPU Clock, 4050Mhz Memory Clock) Memory: 8Gb G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX (7-8-7-24) Cooling: EK-KIT H3O - Supreme HF 360 EN + EK-FC580 GTX+ Watercooling (3 x Yate Loon 120mm fans radiator mounted) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Storage: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black (2 x 1TB RAID 0) Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Monitor: Acer GD245HQ Accessories: Nvidia 3D Vision
November 29, 201114 yr With your system, why do you need tweaks? I just have the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the Graphics section and the smallpartrejectradius=1 tweak in the Scenery section. Did you defrag your Raid0 configuration after you installed FSX? The FSX install program throws files all over the harddrive and that could be causing some of your stuttering. Are your scenery sliders all the way over to the right? No system today is capable of smoothly running fsx with all sliders to the right. Also check your AI settings. Those settings are huge frame eaters when set too high. With my system (which is similar to yours), I sometimes get fps in the teens with fps set at unlimited when flying over high quality commercial scenery like FTX/PNW and into Seattle but most of the time they stay above 30 which is definitely great FPS. I have my texture quality set at high def (4096).Best regards,Jim
November 29, 201114 yr Author Jim,Went through my fsx.cfg file to check what's been set. I've also got HIGHMEMFIX=1 but the smallpartrejectradius, mine is set at 4.0. What does this tweak do?Never though of doing a defrag, i'll try that and see if there's any performance increase. Some of the scenery sliders are set all the way, i'll list them below if it helps...Also when you say texture quality, are you referring to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096?GraphicsTarget frame rate: unlimitedFull screen resolution: 1920x1080x32Filtering: BilinearAnti-aliasing: OffGlobal texture resolution: Very highDirect X 10: OffLens flare: OnLight Bloom: OffAdvanced Animations: OnAircraftHigh resolution 3D virtual cockpit: OnAircraft casts shadows on the ground: OffAircraft casts shadows on itself: OnAircraft landing lights illuminate ground: OnSceneryTerrain and waterLevel of detail radius: LargeMesh complexity: 100Mesh resolution: 5mTexture resolution: 7cmWater effects: High 2.xScenery objectsScenery complexity: Extremely denseAutogen density: Very DenseGround scenery shadows: OffSpecial effects details: HighWeatherCloud draw distance: 80miRate at which weather changes over time: LowDetailed clouds: MaximumTrafficAirline traffic density: 20General aviation traffic density: 20Airport vehicle density: MediumRoad vehicles: 20Ships and ferries: 20Leisure boats: 20CheersGarry CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) overclocked to 4.90Ghz @ 1.52 Volts (76C under load) Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked (1536Mb GDDR5 Memory, 797Mhz GPU Clock, 4050Mhz Memory Clock) Memory: 8Gb G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX (7-8-7-24) Cooling: EK-KIT H3O - Supreme HF 360 EN + EK-FC580 GTX+ Watercooling (3 x Yate Loon 120mm fans radiator mounted) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Storage: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black (2 x 1TB RAID 0) Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Monitor: Acer GD245HQ Accessories: Nvidia 3D Vision

Old but it still applies and from the lead FSX developer.Yes, I was referring to the texture_max_load setting.Your settings look okay except I would turn AF and AA on instead of Bilinear and AA off. In the Traffic section I set airport vehicle density to Low or Minimum; road vehicles should be no higher than 10 (honestly you will not see any difference here except better performance!); ship, ferries, and leisure boats should be set to 0. They are a big time frame rate hog.Best regards,Jim
November 29, 201114 yr Author Thanks Jim, will adjust and see how it goes. Will post back CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) overclocked to 4.90Ghz @ 1.52 Volts (76C under load) Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked (1536Mb GDDR5 Memory, 797Mhz GPU Clock, 4050Mhz Memory Clock) Memory: 8Gb G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX (7-8-7-24) Cooling: EK-KIT H3O - Supreme HF 360 EN + EK-FC580 GTX+ Watercooling (3 x Yate Loon 120mm fans radiator mounted) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Storage: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black (2 x 1TB RAID 0) Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Monitor: Acer GD245HQ Accessories: Nvidia 3D Vision
November 29, 201114 yr Thanks Jim, will adjust and see how it goes. Will post backGood luck! Since you appear to be new to FSX with only 3 posts so far, I want to make sure you are aware of a great Setting Up FSX and Tuning It Guide written by a FSX Guru (and a developer of GEX) - http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html. His guide was started back in 2009 but he regularly keeps it up-to-date with the most current information. He offers some excellent guidance for people just getting into the FS World.Best regards,Jim
November 30, 201114 yr Author Jim, seems to be running nicely now. Might have just been a combination of needing the defrag and traffic settings lowered. no more stuttering. Thanks for all your help and i'll be sure to check out that link.Garry CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Processor (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) overclocked to 4.90Ghz @ 1.52 Volts (76C under load) Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Superclocked (1536Mb GDDR5 Memory, 797Mhz GPU Clock, 4050Mhz Memory Clock) Memory: 8Gb G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX (7-8-7-24) Cooling: EK-KIT H3O - Supreme HF 360 EN + EK-FC580 GTX+ Watercooling (3 x Yate Loon 120mm fans radiator mounted) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Storage: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black (2 x 1TB RAID 0) Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Monitor: Acer GD245HQ Accessories: Nvidia 3D Vision
