REX+ASE+FSX

Featured Replies

Hello Captains.I just have one question: Can somebody guide me how to start these weather softwares with FSX? I mean, I want to have some instructions about how to set ASE weather engine, REX textures and the order it has to be initiated with FSX.Thanks in advance for your answers.

Jorge Escobar.

Jorge,You would set your textures via REX interface selecting the options, depending on your hardware you could select the HD (4096x4096) textures for clouds and 1024x1024 texture resolution for water and save. Make sure that their weather engine is disabled. You would then set your theme creation textures, install then close REX, now that part is done.Next start ASE and set it the way you like it, there are default weather modes but ensure that you select DWC (Direct Weather Control) under general options. If you have a registered version of FSUIPC then there are settings that you can apply via that application as well. Here is a cool thing about ASE, select the "Briefing" tab and press "Change Flight Plan" then navigate to a flightplan that you have created via the "Import" button, select your Alternate ICAO ID then "Process" the route and voila you will have the average Wx from the departure airport to the destination airport. From what I gather ASE2012 is just around the corner and it promises improved functionality and coverage over ASE.

Thank you so much Robert your answer has clarified all my doubts. Up to now I don't have much money, so I think I will continue flying with ASE weather engine and REX textures for a long time. And about the configuration, I just settted ASE like this:http://forum.avsim.n...planes-part-ii/ because it works so good with the 737NGX. Thanks again. Bye.

Fantastic, glad I could help. Thanks for the link to the post you provided.

I find that REX takes forever to replace the textures, much too long for me to do before every flight as some people do. So now what I do is plan to use REX only now and again and use active sky to save a snapshot. I have several e.g. Autumn - US Flying, Autumn - Europe Flying etc etcI then load the saved snapshot depending on where and when I am flying.

Its the water textures that take the most time to replace, simply uncheck the water themes in the options dialog to stop REX loading them in each time. Speeds up the process.Pete Smith.
