December 9, 201114 yr Given up on the autopilot. Moved on to another issue. Rudder trim.If I set the view to look at the rear of the B58, the rudder is trimmed left. If I press the number 6 to center the rudder trim, nothing happens. I can press the number 5 to manually trim the rudder back to center. However, if I the press the number 6 (rudder trim center) the rudder trims left again. What's going on here? Why is the rudder trimmed left by default? Why can't I center the trim with the number 6?
December 9, 201114 yr Depending on the plane you are using, some planes have a built in trim to start with. These are usually small planes such as the Cessna 172. These planes in real life do not have rudder trim, so it is built into the plane. Many people in real life see their vertical stabilizers canted and make the mistake of manually straightening it out. LOLI haven't noticed in X Plane if the 172 is showing this or not.Donald E. Donovan Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.
December 10, 201114 yr Author Hi Donald,This is happening with the Baron 58.I went back and looked again. I'm still learning how to move the outside view. It now appears the trim panel is moving correctly. The question is why the acutal rudder is offset to the right (if looking from behind the a/c) as if you were pushing on the left pedal. I have centered and calibrated the rudder axis but the rudder is still offset and won't center.
December 10, 201114 yr Author Thank you lightplane.I'm looking at it now. Initially it looked like it was fixed for left pedal deflection but to me it appears to have moved the other direction. Still checking. Here's another odd finding, at least for me. I use rudder pedals. If I press full left pedal then let the pedal release on its own, the rudder waves back and forth like a hand fan then finally centers. I would think the a/c rudder should just swing back to center and not fan back and forth. Could this be caused by the center return spring in my rudder pedals or is something else at fault?
December 10, 201114 yr Author From what I see the issue is still there while on the ground. You can easily check using Chase view. The rudder does appear to center once in the air. Also, the waving rudder only happens in the air. When on the ground the rudder centers when I release full deflection.
