Launching X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

How do you launch X-Plane 10? After looking at the manual, it states that I should have a desktop folder for X-Plane which I don't. I installed with downloaded installer and then updated with downloaded updater however, there is still no desktop X-Plane folder or reference to any X-Plane items from my Windows 7 Start menu (All Programs). Also, where is the official X-Plane forum - here at AVSIM, Flightsim or where?

Hi, Wilbert. There is no official X-Plane forum. There are the forums here, the one's at http://www.x-pilot.com, or the one's at http://www.x-plane.org.As for the issue you are having, after downloading the demo installer, you need to:1. Unzip it2. Run it. It is here it will ask where you would like to install to. Wherever you select, it will create a folder titled 'X-Plane 10 Demo'3. Open the X-Plane 10 Demo folder after the installer is finished and then run X-Plane.X-Plane does not write to the registry, so no start menu items will be present.Lastly, since you are downloading a fresh copy of the demo, there's no need to use the X-Plane updater. When it is necessary, X-Plane will tell you with a warning screen after you launch the sim.Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding. I am not installing the DEMO. I have the full release (8 disks package). I have no problem building a shortcut to the program, which I have already done but I also wanted to know all the program/shortcuts in the folder that was suppose to have been created.I also have another question. Has anyone come up with a correlation of matching joystick definitions to FSX's?

Wilbert

Hello !With X-Plane you not only have the flight simulator, but also Plane-Maker and Airfoil-Maker. If you want to create or modify an aircraft, it's nice if you also have shortcut icons for these programs.Don't forget to update X-Plane first. The updater is here:http://wiki.x-plane.com/BetaThese pages are for X-Plane 9, but they can also help you for X-Plane 10:http://wiki.x-plane.com/Chapter_2:_Installing_and_Configuring_X-Planehttp://wiki.x-plane.com/Chapter_3:_Initial_Flight_SetupOr read the X-Plane 10 manual here:http://www.x-plane.com/files/manuals/X-Plane_10_Desktop_manual.pdfHappy flying. :(

Hi, Wilbert,Sorry about that! I understand now. The install processes are still very similar. It sounds like you've got X-Plane at least running, so I'll let someone else answer your joystick question!

As I have mentioned - I have already installed the latest updates with the downloaded updater. I will also make shortcuts to the mentioned modules installed with the program. In the joystick assignment definitions, X-Plane uses "yaw" and "roll" as oppose to FSX's "rudder" and "ailerons". This is why I asked if anyone have yet to come up with a correlation with most of the joystick assignment with FSX.Thanks for responding . . . . . .

Yaw= rudderPitch= up & down (like elevator)Roll= side to side (like ailerons)

I just mentioned this in the post above. I was asking about all the others.

X-Plane doesn't actually "Install" in the traditional windows sense of the word. It actually copies the files on the disk from their present location to the location selected at the beginning of the installation process. When the installer runs, it selects your "desktop/X-Plane 10" as the default location for installation, much as most programs opt for "C:Program FilesX-Plane 10" type directories. Because XP doesn't actually install anything to the registry, it won't show up in your add/remove programs or the program list on the start menu. Windows doesn't know XP10 exists at all except as a bunch of files on the hard disk.To use the updater, you will:Download the XP10 Updater zip fileExtract it to your XP10 installation folder (wherever you chose to put it at the first screen of the installer)Run the XP10 Updater.exe fileIt will then scan all the current files and versions of the files, compare it to a list it downloads from the live site and download the required files to bring your copy up-to-date.
