December 23, 201114 yr Stephen, my settings below. To be honest there's a lot here I'm not too sure about. I'm wondering whether my Prime95 problem could be to do with the CPU Thermal Monitor setting?BIOS Version = FJLoad-Line Calibration = DisabledCPU Vcore = 1.325VQPI/Vtt Voltage = 1.175VCPU PLL = 1.8VIOH Core = 1.3VDRAM Voltage = 1.5VCPU Clock Ratio = 21XIntel Turbo Boost Tech = DisabledCPU Cores Enabled = AllCPU Multi-Threading = EnabledC3/C6/C7 State Support = DisabledCPU Thermal Monitor = AutoCPU EIST Function = AutoBi-Directional PROCHOT = AutoQPI Clock Ratio = AutoQPI Link Speed = 7.2GHzUncore Clock Ratio = x16Uncore Frequency = 3200MHzBCLK Frequency = 200PCI Express Frequency (MHz) = AutoC.I.A.2 = DisabledCPU Clock Drive = 800mVPCI Express Clock Drive = 900mVExtreme Memory Profile = DisabledSystem Memory Multiplier = 8.0Memory Frequency (MHz) = 1066 1600Performance Enhance = StandardChannel Interleaving = 6 (Auto)Rank Interleaving = 4 (Auto)Channel A, B & C Timing Settings: CAS=9, tRCD=9, tRP=9, tRAS=27Channel A, B & C Turnaround Settings = Auto Hi Tom,Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I suspect your Vcore is too low. If I remember right (It has been almost a year) I ran a bit over 1.4v in order to maintain 4.3Ghz. Also is 1.5v enough for your ram? I had the same ram I have now and ran 1.65v. Should load line calibration be disabled? I don't remember mine being so. BTW, we should start a separate thread since we are intruding on Corey's thread. What is your heat solution as that seems a tad warm?Kind regards, Stephen, 1.4v might push my temps too high but I will try. I'm running a CoolMaster Hyper 212 Plus but really wanted something bigger but my case won't accommodate it. The ram should be 1.65v as you note but I had problems with passing MemTest (the BIOS only let's me go to 1.64v). However I did have it set to this when running 190x2.1 (3.99Ghz) for 1540Mhz with no problem. I've also read about increasing the QPI\Vtt but this just seems to push the temps up also. I have it set to BIOS default right now. I'm thinking that my temps should max below 80C but perhaps I can safely go higher? This is all finger biting stuff for me :)Cheers and have a good Christmas.
January 11, 201214 yr Don't push it, Tom. 190x21 is a respectable overclock for the 930! Why are you trying to push it further?80C isn't an acceptable temperature. Especially for 24/7 use. Perhaps you've just reached the limit for your cooler/case combination? I've got it all written down so easy to wind back, and I wasn't getting blue screen with Prime95. Admittedly I didn't run it for more than 5-10 minutes and I don't run 24/7, evenings and weekends mostly. I work with plant design systems so like to get away from the screen when I'm at home. Just can't seem to put the NGX down, know what I mean? I'm going to upgrade sometime this year so maybe I'll just wind back but I'm also considering getting a new case and possibly cooler as an interim step. The next question is water or air - just to set the cat amongst the pigeons!

Sorry I missed this post. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
January 12, 201214 yr Author Water Tom! Water! I jumped on your settings over in the PMDG forum as well. Sorry I missed this post. That's a big psychological leap for mere mortals but it can't be that hard? Maybe I should pick-up a mini bar fridge on ebay, drill some holes, in goes the gear and seal it up with sicaflex. Now that would be an interesting project. :LMAO:

If its not too late, what are your settings now and how is it running? If I am hard to get ahold of perhaps PM me and I will likely notice it quicker. I'll keep my eye on this thread though.Kind regards,
January 12, 201214 yr Author Ah hello Stephen, nice to hear from you again. My settings are still as above but I think later today I'll wind it back to 190x21 and lower the Vcore and run Prime95. I'll post back my new settings in a PM if that's okay with you. Looks like I'll be heading over Vancouver way for work again in the near future so another ride on the Air Canada 777 (night flight - don't like those). Whistler beckons! I might try and come back via LA and catch up with some relatives there.
January 13, 201214 yr That's what I posted over in the PMDG forum for Tom. His temps were also an issue, so I suggested lowering BCLK altogether and not pushing the voltage too far. January 13, 201214 yr Author This seems low for 4.2GHzQPI/Vtt Voltage = 1.175V Dazz, yes I did start cranking up the QPI/Vtt and also the Vcore in various combinations but this just seemed to push my temps up and up. I've been getting a bit worried about frying my CPU and then would have to do a lot of explaining to the missus why I had to go and buy a new rig. Maybe not a good strategy as she's already whining that I'm spending too much time in my study. For the time being I'm going to wind back to 190x21 which seemed to have no problems in Prime95. That will give me some peace of mind. I've got some holidays coming up and then probably some travel with work so when that's all out the way I'll look at getting a new case and better cooling. I may go water but will need to make sure that I can use any new CPU cooler on a new rig down the track, which could be LGA 2011 based. It'll be interesting to see how some of the new CPUs perform into 2012. I think Zach is right, maybe 3.99GHz is the best I'll get with the i7 930. I'll do some more research on this meantime.
